The upcoming MMORPG known asPaliawill have romance options inspired byStardew Valleyand other farming sims. Likewise, this likely could lead to children and marriage further down the line, the new development studio explained recently.
Paliais inspired by a number of games aside fromStardew Valley, includingAnimal Crossing: New HorizonsandBreath of the Wild, but ConcernedApe’s indie game might be the one with the most influence. In addition to farming and task management,Paliatakes fromStardewValley’s NPC friendship levels. As explained during a press release, many ofPalia’s NPCs will feature friendship levels that increase by giving them gifts, speaking with them, and completing their quests. This process will work the same for NPCs who have a romance option. On the officialPaliaDiscord server, Singularity 6 clarified how these relationships will work and how they may change in the future.

Currently, there are only plans to introduce relationships inPaliathrough the way ofStardew Valley-like heart levelswith certain NPCs. ButPaliahasn’t entered pre-alpha yet, meaning there’s much room to change and grow. Likely, marriage will exist in the world ofPaliadown the line, Singularity 6 mentioned on Discord. Following in the footsteps of many farming sims, this is the most probable outcome, even if the feature isn’t available at launch.
Additionally, Singularity 6 mentions that children may be possible in the future, much like raising children inStory of SeasonsorStardew Valley. One big question mark many MMORPG players have aboutPaliais what will keep it enticing when there’s nothing like PvP and raids to keep competition and stakes high. But the addition of children always adds incentive for the long-haul when it comes to relaxing farming sims, and would add to the community-building style thatPaliais aiming for.
Another big question fans have about the upcoming game is whether or notPaliawill allow marriage between players.Stardew Valleyadded this option with the multiplayer update, and it functions the same asmarrying an NPC in Pelican Town, wedding and all.Elder Scrolls Onlineand many other MMORPGs also allow players to marry one another and provide buffs for doing so, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see this down the line, and Singularity 6 is currently looking into it.
RPG fans are always wondering whether or not players can romance multiple characters without penalty, or else risking aPersona 5-style confrontation scene. According to Singularity 6, players can have relationships with multiple NPCs but, “just like in real life,” the characters may get upset upon discovery.
