Overwatchis a team game full of opportunities to make amazing plays. FromReinhardt smashing a Junkrat tireat the last moment to Anna sleeping a Nanoblade wielding Genji, there’s no limit to the types of insane plays possible in the game. While players have been coming up with new ways to catch their opponents off guard sinceOverwatch’slaunch in 2016, some players are still developing new strategies. Recently, one gamer formulated a new plan for using Symmetra’s teleporter on Volskaya Industries.
A common strategy seen throughout theOverwatchranks, the Symmetra teleporter play is an effective tactic in many cases. Known for her defensive ability to place sentry turrets around the map, Symmetra serves an offensive purpose in a skirmish as well. By placing her teleporter behind enemy lines, she and the rest of her team can slip past difficult choke points onOverwatch’swide variety of maps. By doing this, the opposing team is often left unprepared and easy targets in a fight. While the teleporter play is a common strategy for attacking teams, it often goes unused when on defense. However, one fan decided to change that.

In a Reddit post, a user known as Shade_39 showed off a clip of his team defending the first capture point onthe Volskaya Industries map. As they prepared for battle, he came up with the idea to go to the far right side of the map and use Symmetra’s teleporter to cross over the water. His team waited for the opposing team to exit their spawn room and advance towards the choke point where the defending team usually holds. Once the enemy team had passed, the Symmetra player placed the teleporter allowing her entire team to cross the gap and position themselves behind the opposing squad. Caught off guard, the entire enemy team was eliminated in a matter of seconds.
The clip from Shade_39 has been well received by theOverwatchcommunity on Reddit. With over 5,100 upvotes, the consensus from gamers was that the enemy team never saw the play coming. However, some commented that while the strategy worked, it wasn’t as effective when compared to the Symmetra teleporter strategy on offense. An effective use of the teleporter play while attacking can lead to an immediate squad wipe and point capture, while the play on defense only delays the enemy team roughly 30 seconds if all goes according to plan.
It will be interesting to see what type of plays fans are able to make whenOverwatch 2eventually releases. While the sequel contains many elements and heroes from the original game, it looks to change up the meta by altering team composition.Overwatch 2matches will be made up of teams of 5 instead of 6, with the omission of a tank. In the meantime, as players continue to play the originalOverwatch, this newest Symmetra play adds a new tactic to skirmishes and seems likely to catch more teams unaware in the future.
