Overwatchis entering its sixth year this May. With the anniversary coming up and with Blizzard in an odd transitional period before the release ofOverwatch 2,the studio is shaking up the way it goes about celebrating in-game events. The timed activity for the year is calledOverwatchAnniversary Remix and will happen multiple times throughout the year.

This remix on the celebratory events will consolidate usual seasonalOverwatchevents and their associated activities into segmented events that will feature brawl modes like Mei’s Snowball Challenge, Lucioball, and re-colors of past rare skins. The brawl modes will return every Volume with a total of three Volumes. There will be six remixed skins that were from previous seasonal events and skins from timed challenges available to earn or buy via Anniversary Remix Volume.

Anniversary Remix Volume 1 will start on April 5th through April 25th, and all game modes will be open for fans to play one last time beforeOverwatch 2. The remixed Legendary skins will beMage Mercy(originally Witch Mercy), Demon Genji (Oni Genji), Evermore Reaper (Nevermore Reaper), Steelhardt Reinhardt (Blackhardt Reinhardt), White Cat D.Va (Black Cat D.Va), and Zealot Zenyatta (Cultist Zenyatta).

The timed challenges will change every week and will bring back one of the skins from either a comic lore event orspecialOverwatchlegendary skin challenge. The three skins up for grabs in Volume 1 will be D. Va’s Nano Cola, Bastet Ana, and Combat Medic Baptiste. Along with the aforementioned skins, the unique skins from seasonal events will also be available for purchase, presumably at the reduced rate that the skins normally sell for after the debut year.

In a blog post released after the tease of Anniversary Remix Volume 1, Blizzard says this new style of event will give players the opportunity to obtain new skins and collect re-imaginings of beloved skins, and will also allow thedevelopers at Blizzard to focus more on preparing for theOverwatch 2betaand its future full release. Community Manager AndyB also assured fans that all the skins and cosmetics fromOverwatchwill be transferable toOverwatch 2.

This remix event offers fans an opportunity to earn skins they missed and playOverwatchin its current iteration before theOverwatch 2beta. While these events won’t offer truly new content, it will put new zest into theOverwatchseasonal celebrations. There have been somecalls to shake up the typicalOverwatchseasonal eventsafter years of the community playing Storm Rising and other seasonal events years after the game’s initial release with no substantial changes. At the same time, it will bring more cycles of fan-favorite Lucioball more often. Unlocking hard to get skins, icons, and sprays with the chance to carry over all of those earned items is an enticing draw for players.
