Summary
One of the best factors ofOverwatch 2is how the deep lore of the title is hidden in plain sight. This allows newer players to focus on learning the basics of the release while developing an understanding of its wider narrative and character motivations at the same time. While this is more obvious in things like the dialogue that heroes share before matches, the maps themselves often have huge nods to the franchise’s lore.
Many of the maps inOverwatch 2are directly tied to certain heroes by taking place in iconic locations within the home countries of some characters. In this way, Colosseo sticks out in theOW2map roster, as it depicts the capital of a country that is not represented among the title’s heroes. Given the relatively new nature of the map and some eye-catching points of interest within it, there could easily be plans forOverwatch 2to introduce a hero related to Colosseo in the near future.

Overwatch 2: A Hero For Colosseo
Colosseo was added toOverwatch 2as a launch map, being one of the few entirely unique maps that were not carried forward from the originalOverwatch. The map was built for the new game mode Push, and sees players battle within and around the ruins of the real-life Colosseum in Rome, Italy.
Iconic cities have featured inOverwatchmaps quite often, with the likes of Sao Paulo and Busan being recreated in this way. These maps have direct links to Lucio and D.Va, who are of Brazillian and South Korean heritage respectively, yet there isno Italian hero inOverwatch 2to create a narrative link between Colosseo and the game’s cast.
Given how Colosseo was only recently added toOverwatch 2, Blizzard could be planning to introduce an Italian hero in an upcoming season, withColosseo acting as an early hint. In fact, there are some figures that are depicted throughout the map that could serve as the perfect inspiration for what form this new hero should take.
There are a range of statues around Colosseo of some of the best gladiators to fight in the famed arena; gladiatorial combat is still a popular event in the world ofOverwatch 2. Far from the grim reality of real-world Colosseum combat in ancient Rome, gladiator fights inOverwatch 2see human pilots take control of mechanized fighters; the best pilots and their fighters earn a chance to become global superstars.
The fighters immortalized in Colosseo’s statues are named Titus, Magnus, and Camilla. These figures could easily be the basis for a new Italian hero inOverwatch 2, with players potentially taking control of a rogue robotic gladiator. This would tie in perfectly toOverwatch’s lore, specifically the Omnic Crisis, where the mechanical servants of humanity have risen up against their masters.
Tired of fighting for the amusement of humans, it is easy to see what the motivations of such a hero would be in-game, sharing the same kind ofworldview as the likes ofOverwatch 2’s Ramattra. A gladiator hero would finally give narrative purpose to Colosseo, while adding broader Italian representation toOverwatch 2and focusing neatly on the Colosseum itself. As it stands, Colosseo is long overdue its own associated hero, and the statues found across the map may be the perfect inspiration for Blizzard in expanding the lore of the franchise even further.
