For anyone who had trouble remembering the differences betweenThe Outer WorldsandOuter Wilds, the line between the two games is continuing to blur as Obsidian begins hiring on new writing staff. To be clear,The Outer WorldsisObsidian Entertainment’s award-winning RPGfrom 2019, whileOuter Wildsis a hit 2019 title by indie studio Mobius Digital.

The new hire is none other than Kelsey Beachum, a game writer and narrative designer who began working at Mobius Digital in 2015 and had a leading role in the writing forOuter Wilds’award winning story. Now hired byObsidian Entertainment, Beachum will be taking a similar roll as before, but to a much larger company.

While Beachum’s exact assignment when joining Obsidian hasn’t been announced, it’s likely that the writer’s talent won’t be tooled towards the company’supcoming titleGrounded, due to how soon the game will be releasing. This, of course, opens up the list of opportunities that Beachum might be working on, hopefully including a sequel to the company’s space-faring adventureThe Outer Worlds. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that a sequel is currently in the works, however, a job posting by Obsidian does hint that the company is currently looking for writers and developers to work on a new RPG.

Obsidian does have a lot of irons in the fire, making it difficult to pinpoint exactly where these new hires might be heading. While the obvious first guess would be the upcoming titleGrounded,The Outer Worldshas DLCset to release at some point within the next year. This is great news for fans, as that means they’ll be seeing quality content to continue pumping out of the developer, it does make influential hires like Beachum a bit of a mystery.

Regardless of what Beachum’s next title will be while working for Obsidian, whether it’s to continue thedevelopment ofGroundedpre or post-release or a whole new IP all together, theOuter Wilds' writer’s style will be welcome withThe Outer Worldsdeveloper. The type of comedy writing that Beachum had previously honed, through positions both with Mobius Digital and The Onion, certainly has a place among Obsidian’s previous titles, even those that touch on more serious topics likeFallout: New Vegas. So fans of eitherThe Outer WorldsorOuter Wildsshould be excited to see the crossing influence coming from the stellar and growing team at Obsidian.
