One of Saitama’s unique qualitiesis his ability to attract other people to gather around him. More often than not, he doesn’t even do it on purpose. He merely does his job as a hero and kills any monsters with a single punch as usual. However, any hero that comes to know his true power somehow naturally gravitates towards him.

Out of every S Class hero that often gathers in Saitama’s cramped apartment, the most interesting one is certainly King. The reason is simply that he is quite possibly the weakest human being not only in that group, but also in the entire Hero Association. Who is King?
According to the hero association’s latest assessment, King is the S Class Rank 7 hero. He is a quiet man with a terrifying face who earned the nickname of “The Strongest Man on Earth”. He received the admiration of the public, the respect from hisfellow superheroes, and the fear of monsters and villains alike.
Several S Class heroeshave even openly talked about holding King in high regard. S Class rank 2 Tatsumaki says during the Monster Association arc that King is the only one who can be relied on to do the jobs properly because he is the one who finds the hostage and gets him to safety. During the same arc, S Class rank 11, Superalloy Darkshine also says that there are three beings that you don’t want to mess with, which is himself, Tatsumaki, and King.
However, King himself doesn’t actually have any superpower. In terms of physical ability, he is no different from any other regular human being. You could even argue that he is weaker than a regular human. After all, even he himself has admitted that he is simply a 29-year-old unemployed Otaku who spends most of his time playing games. Luckily for him, not many people know this fact.
What is the King Engine?
The King Engine is a massive part of King’s identity. As a matter of fact, it is one of the things that can help himdeal with various opponentsthat come his way. The King Engine combined with his menacing looks and threatening demeanor is the big reason why he has such a fearsome reputation.
Most people think that the King Engine is some sort ofsuperpower or secret weapon that is ready to be unleashed on any foethat dares to stand in his way. However, the truth about the rumble of the King Engine is actually a lot more underwhelming than that. The King Engine is simply King’s heartbeat that gets louder the more terrified or stressed out he is. Yes, it’s nothing more than his loud heartbeat.

Other than the fact that he has no superpower whatsoever, King himself is actually a coward. He once ran away from a killer robot that challenged him to a duel, and throughout the whole ordeal, he was extremely nervous, anxious, scared, and stressed. It’s in these situations that the King Engine is the loudest.
Why is Everybody Afraid of King?
Despite having one ofthe lowest physical abilities within the Hero Association, everybody seems to fear King to some degree. That is especially true for low-level heroes and monsters alike. So why do they fear King so much? Well, there are actually a couple of reasons why. First and foremost is the fact that not many people know who he truly is. The man has one of the best poker faces in the game and to his credit, he is always able to maintain a calm and composed demeanor no matter how surprising or threatening things might seem. To this day, Saitama is the only one who knows the truth about King.
Other than that, there is also the fact that people tend to exaggerate everything he says and does. He might be quivering in fear, but onlookers will think that he is preparing to use a powerful attack. Not only that, people often attributeSaitama’s accomplishmentsas something that was done by King.
Another important factor is the simple fact that King is extremely lucky. No matter how tough things might get, he can always find a way to get out of the problem. Usually,the problems will either resolve themselves, or he somehow finds himself far away from danger. Both of these are the case during the Monster Association arc where he is somehow able to pick one of the safest routes to the Monster HQ.
Nevertheless, whether it’s because of his threatening looks or his enigmatic King Engine, King remains one of the mostinteresting and memorable characters inOne-Punch Man.In a world filled with nothing but people with ridiculous superpowers, being interesting and memorable is certainly a great trait to have.
