Summary
The introduction of Dr. Vegapunk in the Egghead Arc has yielded several revelations about the world ofOne Piece, most notably on the true nature of Devil Fruits, the tale of Sun God Nika, and the Great Kingdom from the Void Century. However, the most significant bit of information shown so far isundoubtedly the story behind Vegapunk’s visitto the island of Ohara after its destruction. Over the course of this trip, Vegapunk discovered the scholars' last stand in the face of their imminent demise, which was a desperate attempt to preserve the knowledge they had accumulated over centuries.
This collection of knowledge was later salvaged by a group of giants, including an important figure from Nico Robin’s past, and taken to the island of Elbaf, as per Vegapunk’s own observation. With Elbaf all but confirmed to be the Straw Hat Pirates' next destination in the Final Saga ofOne Piece, there is little doubt that the next arc will yield even more important information about the Void Century. This informationmay be essential for Luffy and his crewto find their way to Laugh Tale and use what they encounter there to bring the true history of the world to light, and end the tyranny of the World Government once and for all.

The Salvaged Library Of Ohara
As a consequence of their efforts to study the Void Century anddecipher the language of the Poneglyphs, the scholars of Ohara were subjected to a horrific genocide executed through a Buster Call on the island 20 years prior to the start of Luffy’s journey. During this tragedy, the Marines destroyed the ancient Tree of Knowledge on the island, which was said to have existed for nearly 5,000 years. The tree itself contained innumerable books and archaeological records which constituted the Library of Ohara. While the Marines were destroying the library and indiscriminately killing scholars and civilians, the archaeologists on Ohara made a last-ditch attempt to salvage the knowledge they had accrued over centuries of work.
This was done by throwing the remaining books from the library into a nearby lake, almost filling up the entire basin of the water body in the process. WhenVegapunk visited the island only months afterthis horrific incident, he found the lake filled with books and noticed that a group of giants led by Jaguar D. Saul were attempting to recover what they could from the piles of knowledge that had sunk into the depths of the lake. Moved to tears, Vegapunk saw this as proof that the “Will of Ohara” still lived on even after the deaths of the scholars who resided there. He later paid a secret visit to Elbaf, and after seeking permission from the giants, was able to read, memorize, and collect all the information that the books held.
Unearthing The Secrets Of The Void Century
On the one hand, Vegapunk’s mind and his information storage system, known as Punk Records, contain all the knowledge from the books that were salvaged from the Ohara Incident. Since it was stated that he was conducting his own research into the Void Century prior to the World Government’s order for his execution, Vegapunk must have made some more progress toward uncovering the truth of what happened 800 years ago. If the Straw Hat Pirates manage to escape the disastrous situation on Egghead with Vegapunk in tow, it would be a significant step forward in the journeytowards unearthing the World Government’s secrets.

To add to this, there was another important piece of information stated during the Ohara Incident, where Professor Clover, the director of the Ohara Library, shared that he was aware of the name of the Great Kingdom from the Void Century as well as the power this information held. If the name of the Great Kingdom and records of its conflict against the Twenty Kingdoms are containedwithin the books that were taken to Elbaf, Robin might have a treasure trove of resources to call on in her effort to locate the Rio Poneglyph and learn the true history.
Saul’s Story And Elbaf’s Role In The Void Century
Finally, the revelation that Jaguar D. Saul managed to survive the Ohara Incident, is also important to note in the crew’s upcoming visit to Elbaf, especially due to the close friendship he shared with Robin when she was a child. The Straw Hat Pirates already have strong ties to Elbaf through Shanks as well as Dorry and Brogy, but Saul might have aneven more vital role to play in their journey. His relationship with Robin’s mother, Nico Olvia, who set out to continue her late husband’s research into the Void Century prior to Ohara’s destruction has also not been explored and may yield more important secrets.
A visit to Elbaf could also mean a long-awaited reunion for Luffy and Shanks, which may yield more insights into the lore of the world ofOne Pieceregarding Roger’s findings on Laugh Tale, the importance of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, and the reasonwhy Shanks has delayed his claimto the One Piece until now. Furthermore, the Straw Hat Pirates may also encounter Loki, the mysterious prince of Elbaf, and perhaps even forge an alliance with the giants.
There is also the question of Elbaf’s part in the Void Century, since it is now known that both Zou and Wano Countryhad ties to the Great Kingdomand the Poneglyphs. If Elbaf was also an ally of the Great Kingdom, since it has not been stated to be a member of the World Government, there may be more earth-shattering secrets lying in wait at the homeland of the giants.
