One Piecefinally returned with an incredibly powerful chapter earlier this week and it is safe to say that fans were fairly satisfied with what Oda delivered. The chapter focused entirely on the clash between the Piratesand the Marinesin the New World on Beehive Island, which was rather unexpected, given that the story was focusing on the events of their Reverie previously.

Nonetheless, this surprise was pleasantly received by the fansas Garp’s clash against the Blackbeard Piratesis one that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Finally, the vast majority of this fight played out inOne Piecechapter 1087 and fans can now make out who exactly won this fight.
Garp’s Invasion Of The Pirate Island
As soon as the matter involving Captain Koby was made public, it was inevitable for Garp to go down to the Pirate Island and try to rescue his protege. Thankfully for him, Blackbeard himself was not around at this point, which only meant that the clash was going to be a tad easier for him. However, Kuzan, the former Navy Admiral, was still on the island. Immediately afterGarp attacked the Pirate Islandand even found his way to Koby, fans saw Kuzan stand in his way, which was a surprise, given how the former Marine Admiral always held Garp and high regard.
Quite a number of fans believed that Kuzan had only infiltrated the Blackbeard Pirates and that he actually was still a part of the Navy. However, every theory surrounding that idea came crashing down when Kuzan received his own flashback where it was made quite clear that he had actually sided with Blackbeard for good. The two immediately started fighting and it was clear to see that Garp held the advantage, despite being much older and having gotten weaker due to his aging body.With infused Conqueror’s Haki, it was no surprise to see Garp holding the edge over Kuzan in the clash.
Fans got to see some incredible powers from Garp, such as Galaxy Impact and later on, even Blue Hole. Expectedly, these techniques damaged Kuzan quite a lot and gave Garp the upper hand. Had the fight been between these two characters only, it would have been much easier for Garp to pull off the victory without even taking any serious damage, however, that certainly was not the case.
Garp Vs Kuzan and the Blackbeard Pirates
As soon as Garp struck Kuzan, the Blackbeard Pirates jumped in the clash as well. InOne Piece1087, fans saw Garp fight off Sanjuan Wolf, the 7th Ship Captain of the Blackbeard Pirates, and throw him in the water effortlessly. With him being taken care of, the next in line was Vasco Shot, the Eighth Ship Captain of the Blackbeard Pirates. As expected, Shot didn’t pose much of a threat to Garp either and was taken care of rather easily. The biggest strength that the Blackbeard Pirates had on their side was Kuzan himself and he stood in Garp’s way once again, however, before the two could clash, Shiryu did serious damage to the Vice Admiral.
This was only possible because he was targeting Koby with a cheap shot and Garp, wanting his prodigy to survive, stepped in between and took the blow for him. Garp took a clean blow straight through his gut, and was weekend, however, he didn’t let go before injuring Shiryu severely with a single punch of his.

This just goes to show that Garp possesses a tremendous amount of strength, as he was able to pull off a fight against veteran pirates who were once locked up in level 6 of Impel Down, meaning that their existence was dark enough to be erased from the entire world. Garp has been fighting almost the entirety of the pirate crew all by himself and he has done so in quite some manner. Sadly, the injury that he received, added to the fact that he is already old, means that he is going to struggle in this fight moving forward.
The Result Of Garp Vs Kuzan
Garp versus Kuzan resumed once again inOne Piecechapter 1087 when the latter stood in Garp’s way as he was trying to escape from the island. After having been injured already, the playfield was slightly leveled and Kuzan could now match up to Garp more evenly. Fans also got to see a powerful flashback of these two characters. Kuzan’s big favor to Garp was also explored inOne Piece1087, and fans got to see what exactly it was. Kuzan was revealed to be one of the students of God long ago, however, it wasn’t until the previous chapter that the true magnitude of this relationship was explained to the fans.
Garp took Kuzan onas his apprentice long ago, which means that the position that currently belongs to Koby once belonged to him. Although he used to train alone, Kuzan approached to join as he respected him quite a lot. It was revealed to the fans that Garp used to train using battleships. Eventually, Kuzan joined this training and ended up becoming his apprentice. The two shared a very lovely relationship and even when Kuzan was an Admiral, this relationship was maintained, that is, right up until the point where he ended up leaving the Navy and joined the Blackbeard Pirates.
Garp’s entire character is filled with tragedies and the fact that his former student rebelled against him, once again, was yet another tragedy. His own son formed the Revolutionaries instead of joining the Navy while his grandson is a pirate and in open rebellion against the Government. Ace ended up getting killed and Garp has been alone in the Navy all this time. However, it is because of Koby that Garp simply cannot give up on the future just yet, and why he continued to fight even after Shiryu injured him seriously.
Letting the dust settle on the fact that Kuzan had left him for good, Garp decided to attack him once again and Kuzan did the exact same. The two ended up punching each other on their faces and both ended up flying backwards. It is unknown if Kuzan is down for the count, however, Garp is still conscious. As Avalo Pizarro attempted to attack the Navy ship that was trying to escape from the Pirate Island, Garp was seen lying on the floor, however, completely conscious.
The result of the fight between Garp and Kuzan is rather unclear at the moment, however, the former certainly is not defeated, at least, not yet. The fight has either been won by Garp or it is a tie. That’s not to say that Garp is going to escape from the Pirate Island anytime soon. The Blackbeard Pirates are still alive and kicking, which means that Garp will have to sacrifice himself as a decoy and allow the Navy to escape. Fans should expect to see the clash between Garp and the Blackbeard Pirates continue in the next chapter of the story as their numbers are unending.
Koby, Grus, and Helmeppo will likely find a way out of the island thanks to Garp while the Navy Hero will stay behind. When taking into consideration just the fight between God and Kuzan, Garp is the clear winner and the stronger of the two, despite being old. However, when taking into consideration the overall battle between the Blackbeard Pirates and Garp, it is highly likely that the Blackbeard Pirates will image victorious here, given that they have unending numbers on their side and powerful pirate captains against an injured Garp. Whichever direction Oda takes this fight in, fans will remain glued to their seats.
