Team Ninja’sNiohgames have grown out to be one of the most recognizable and loved Soulslike games in recent memory. Sporting equal parts new and old ideas,Niohhas quickly grown out to be an iconic franchise, one that fans are expecting more from.
Nioh 2built upon the original game’s strong foundation, and to some fans, even made a strong statement for itself as being a great Souls competitor. While that may or may not be Team Ninja’s focus for now, it seems that noNioh 3sequel is in sight anytime soon.

No New Nioh or Ninja Gaiden Game In The Works
While there may be plenty of Soulslike games in recent time which all have their own unique gimmicks, nothing feels as well-realized and nuanced to theSoulsformula asNioh. This might sound ironic, but it is a testament to Team Ninja’s ability to innovate and its appreciation of the art form that is theDark Soulsseries.
Despite receiving stellar reviews and sales for bothNiohandNioh 2, the developer has openly stated that nonewNiohgame is currently in the worksand, in a similar vein, no newNinja Gaidengame. In the case of Team Ninja’s stance ondeveloping a newNinja Gaidengame, it sounds a bit odd considering the developer is releasing aNinja Gaiden: Master Collectionvery soon. This should bode well for a new game, giving a great testing ground to theNinja Gaidenfranchise, and even provide fan feedback as to where the series should go from now. Nonetheless, Team Ninja seems to want to work on something new, and if that is indeed the case, that could be big for Team Ninja fans.

All’s Not Lost, However
While Team Ninja is not working on either of these franchises, it is currently hard at work on multiple future projects. There’s a lot of speculation to be drawn out from the statement, as the studio has previously worked on many different games ranging anywhere fromDead or AlivetoMetroid: Other M, but for now, fans can only wait and see.
Hopefully, whatever Team Ninja does next goes as swimmingly asNioh 2.It all remains to be seen, of course, but whileNioh 3and a new Ninja Gaiden may be quite a ways away, there’s a lot of thing coming the way of fans.
Nioh 2is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
