TheNintendo Switchhas been a great success, one that seemingly put Nintendo back on the map after the underwhelming Wii U. Home to some of the best games in recent memory,Nintendo Switchhas been selling massively well and it seems that Nintendo might just be on to something in the near future.

There have beenrumors swirling around about the Switch Pro or Super Switch. It seems that the excessive number of plausible rumors make such a prospect highly likely, so it’s a great time to see how it would fare against the next-gen consoles.

Nintendo Switch Pro Leaked Specs

Among the plethora of leaked information for the potential console, the spec sheet seems to be all over the place. Some have claimed that the console would feature marginally better hardware, with theSuper Switch using the same Tegra X1+ chipsetwith a drastically better cooling system. This is quite a plausible speculation since mobile chips are known to leave a lot of performance on the table owing to thermal constraints, and the Nintendo Switch is no exception.

Others have claimed that an entirely new Tegra chipset would be used, with the capabilities of using features such as DLSS(2.0). The memory is being touted to be bumped up to 8 GB, which is double the original. Apart from these differences, most rumors revolve around a Samsung OLED panel being used for the console with a resolution of 4K.

While these rumors seem plausible for the most part, Nintendo isn’t really known for pushing boundaries with its hardware which makes it a hard pill to swallow. However,Nvidia’s DLSS seems to be a vital factoras the technology can upscale games rendered at a much lower resolution to 4K without much noticeable loss in visual fidelity.

How It Compares

As previously mentioned, Nintendo isn’t really known for developing the most exquisite hardware, and the Switch Pro will likely not be an exception in that regard. Even with fancy technologies such as Nvidia’s DLSS, the console would have a hard time competing against its competitors-namely thePS5 and Xbox Series X. The rumored specs seem to make it somewhat comparable to the Xbox Series S to some extent, which is quite an impressive feat. However, fans should take all this information with a grain of salt as a lot of this is far-sighted speculation at this point in time.

That being said, Nintendo really does not need to have the best hardware to compete with Sony and Microsoft. Whatever Nintendo loses in terms of teraflops, it’s quick to recoup that with a stellar first-party library of games with fan favorites likeMarioandZeldathat rely more on innovative mechanics than sheer visual prowess. With games likeThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2reportedly being launched alongside the Switch Pro, there’s little doubt that fans wouldn’t want to get their hands on the console. Regardless, the increased horsepower should help a great deal to third-party developers who wish to get their games on the platform.
