Summary
The base version of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service gives players access to a variety of NES, SNES, Game Boy, andGame Boy Color games. The Expansion Pass Tier expands the library to include Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance games. Nintendo has been updating the catalog of games monthly ever since the service first launched in 2018. The last SNES games added to the service,Battletoads in BattlemaniacsandKiller Instinct, were in late February. The April 2024 update adds three new games that knowledgeable Nintendo fans may recognize.
In a new trailer posted by Nintendo, it is revealed these three new games will be added to the service on April 12. One of these isAmazing Hebereke, a game developed by Sunsoft released in 1994. Players battle it out in four-player matches on stages with items and traps to take advantage of or avoid. This game is playable in both single-player and four player versus multiplayer.Amazing Hebereke’s addition to the Nintendo Switch Online service makes it one of thegames released in the West for the first time.

The second game shown in the trailer isSuper R-Type,a side-scrolling space shooterreleased in 1991 that was developed and published by Irem. Like other arcade space shooters of the era, players control a spaceship and gather power-up items to fight through seven challenging stages and bosses.Super R-Typealso has a number of difficulty options to adjust the experience, with Novice being the easiest and Pro being the most difficult.
The last game isWrecking Crew ‘98, a Japan-only action puzzle game that was released late in the SNES’ life cycle, two years after the release of the Nintendo 64 console. A sequel to the NES original,Wrecking Crew ‘98has players completing a series of hammer-based demolition puzzles against various opponents. Players can not only control Mario, but also a number of new and old foes, including Foreman Spike, who recentlymade an appearance in theSuper Mario Bros. Movieas a supporting character.
LikeAmazing Hebereke, this is the first time thatWrecking Crew ‘98has been released in the West, as its previous release on theWii’s Virtual consolewas Japan-only. Fans interested in this part of theMariofranchise’s history will likely be interested in this addition to the service.
