The colorful world ofNinjalareceived a lot of hype leading up to its console exclusive release for the Switch in 2020. Many gamers compared the vibrant setting of the game to thethird-person shooterSplatoon, another Nintendo exclusive. While the free-to-playNinjalamight not have reached the same level of success, it has gained many followers on the platform. Due to its popularity, the developers ofNinjalaare looking to branch out into other media outlets besides gaming.

As part of the 19thdeveloper diary from GungHo Online Entertainment, the creators ofNinjalaprovided news on the colorful franchise. Amongst the updates, one significant highlight was the announcement of an upcoming anime based on the series. According to the developer, this new anime is meant to expand the vibrant world ofNinjalaand introduce new storylines for its characters.

The developers also gave fans a glimpse of some of the work being done on the anime behind the scenes. Several pieces of concept art were revealed, giving gamers a look at what Berecca and Burton would possibly look like in the show. Artwork for Lucy was seen as well. The series is expected to release in January 2022, and the developers noted that more updates regarding the project are coming in the months ahead.

This is not the first time that the places and characters ofNinjalahave been reimagined in anime form. Since the game was released, several episodes of a cartoon anime launched on YouTube relating to the game. A 3D animated short film was also unveiled in March of 2020, revealing what happened leading up to the events in the video game.

In addition to the announcement of this new anime, the developers disclosed info about Season 8 of theNinjalavideo game. According to the developer, the theme of the new season is “Animals.” Furthermore, they revealed that it begins on December 2 and runs through March 9. Some of the features arriving with the new season include a new mode, tournaments, and weapons. In addition,several new Shinobi Cardsare being added. These cards are Iron Bind, Life Recovery, Reduced Cooldown, and Explosion.

This new developer diary comes as the development studio forNinjalawas recently acquired by Tencent. As a result of this business move, it will be interesting to see how the company uses this new anime to grow theNinjalafranchise. Regardless, this upcoming show is likely to have much of the same exuberant personality seen in the video game.
