Preparations for the 10th anniversary of the annual New York Game Awards is underway as the list of nominees was announced yesterday. Presented by the New York Videogame Critics Circle andco-hosted by former president and COO of Nintendo of AmericaReggie Fils-Aimé, the video game awards ceremony will play out a bit differently this year. In previous years, such an event would be met with anticipation from fans and the gaming industry alike, all of whom would attend these ceremonies in person.
However, due to the landscape that the year 2020 has left the world, in terms of social distancing and other safety protocol, it is expected that the “online-only” approach will continue well into 2021. The concept of a digital-only experience has been received with a positive response. The Game Awards, hosted last month as a digital-only experience, shattered viewership records fromupwards of an 83% increase.
