The wait is over as Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have released the second action-packed trailer forSpider-Man: No Way Home. The new trailer not only offers exclusive footage from the highly-anticipated film, but finally offers a glimpse at the main, and returning, villains in the film. It seems like the Sinister Six (or five, as it were) are reuniting and most of them are visible in this trailer, confirming at least one fan theory. The only thing missing in the trailer is Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire making a cameo. But, perhaps Sony wants to save one surprise for the film.
While the studios were keeping hush about the release of the first trailer forSpider-Man: No Way Home, and made fans wait a long time for it, they were more open about the second one. A day before the trailer was revealed,Sony announced that the second trailer would be droppingwithin 24 hours. On its social media channels, Sony shared a 30-second clip of the lead actors, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon reacting to the second trailer, with the caption “T-minus 24 hours until you get to see what they’re watching.”

The trailer begins with a few clips that fans have already seen, showingTom Holland’s Spider-Manafter his secret identity is revealed. However, the trailer quickly establishes that due to the “botched spell,” which was meant to make the world forget Peter Parker’s true identity has brought forward some “visitors.” The Multiverse is real with villains from previousSpider-Manfilms arriving to Parker’s world, and Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock is even seen looking surprised when he sees Parker’s, or Holland’s, face. In his world, Tobey Maguire is Spider-Man, and so he doesn’t even recognize Holland’s version of the character. Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon’s characters are even seen interacting with him and laughing at the fact that his full name is Dr. Otto Octavius.
The newSpider-Man: No Way Hometrailer also makes it obvious that Doctor Strange and Spider-Man may not be remaining the best of friends after the spell goes wrong.Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supremeis seen explaining to Parker that all these returning villains died at the hands of different versions of Spider-Man, because “it’s their fate.” But, Parker is persistent and wants to ensure that his identity remains a secret. It will be interesting to see the interactions between the two superheroes. One of the most interesting bits in the trailer is when MJ is seen falling off a bridge, and Parker tries to save her. It is an exact imitation of the scene from Maguire’sSpider-Man, which was released in 2002.
When Garfield’sAmazing Spider-Manfranchise was released, fans were aware that Sony was aiming towardsuniting the Sinister Six, and even planning a film consisting of the six villains. In the comics, there are several variations of the group, butSpider-Man: No Way Homeseems to be bringing Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro, and The Lizard together for now. It remains to be seen if a sixth member will be joining them, or if the alternate version of Green Goblin will fill the spot.
Fans asked for months for the first trailer to be released before their pleas were finally heard. It has been almost three months since the first one dropped and offered the first look at the much-awaited film. While fans were excited to see Doctor Strange andDoc Ock show up in the first trailer, they had hoped that the second one would reveal other characters, too.
Fans have been theorizing over Tobey Maguire andAndrew Garfield returning to reprise their roles as Spider-Man, along with several villains from multipleSpider-Manfilms. They were looking for some kind of confirmation that these characters were in fact a part ofSpider-Man: No Way Home. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen.
Prior to the release of the trailer, the second official poster for the film was also revealed. However, fans did not seem to appreciate it much, withmany roasting Sonyfor the “shabby” artwork. There were hundreds of negative comments posted on various social media channels, with many calling out the studio for taking its fans for granted. It remains to be seen if any more posters, or trailers, would be released in the next month before the film premieres.
