Finnish development studio Housemarque has celebrated 25 years of developing games with a blog post, announcing how far the company has come over the years and what the future holds. As far as the projects to come, Housemarque made clear in the post that the entire studio is working on a single game with an unnamed partner looking to begin defining the “next evolution” of the company, likely witha Next-Gen consolelike thePS5.
While the post doesn’t necessarily name Housemarque’s partner specifically, their previous experience working with Sony certainly lends to the theory that the studio’s next game will be releasing for thePS5. One of the company’s best-selling titles,Resogun, is currently a PS4 exclusive, so a deal between the studio and Sony Interactive Entertainment wouldn’t be out of the question.

It’s unclear what exactly this new game is, but according to the post, this latest title has been the primary focus of the entire Housemarque team, as the studio has pushed all other ongoing projects, like Stormdivers, on the back burner until further notice. This could mean that the studio is trying to make sure that the game is ready to ship soon, possibly when thePS5 launches in Holiday 2020, implying that this mystery game will be a launch title for the Next-Gen system. Whether or not we’re looking at aResogunsequel or even spiritual-sequel is still up in the air, but looking at Housemarque’s catalogue of games, the studio isn’t known to stick to one type of game for too long.

With over 3000 dedicated developers working in Finland, Housemarque claims an amount of pride in being a part of a thriving industry in the company’s home country. While the exact nature of Housemarque’s next title is still up for speculation until the company is able to release more information, the quality of the studio’s previous work should be enough to excite fans. With fast paced, stylistic games in the company’s catalogue, whatever this upcoming title may be, it’s sure to be an exciting inclusion tothe PS5’s launch library. However, it should be noted that this most recent project is not confirmed for any particular system, and the partner is still unnamed.
