The Pokemon Company has recently been quite relentless with news and reveals to celebrate its25th anniversary this 2021. In an announcement that seemed to have popped up out of nowhere,New Pokemon Snap, the franchise’s photography-themed game, has suddenly shared its solid release date for the Nintendo Switch.
Fans were visibly excited in 2020 when the company first announced that it was making a sequel to theold Nintendo 64 titlePokemon Snap. Quite different from how normalPokemongames play,Pokemon Snaptook players on a safari trip through a bunch of different regions, where they could take snapshots of their favorite Pokemon in their natural territories. Now, aptly namedNew Pokemon Snapwill take new and old players through a similar journey. This time, in all the hi-resolution glory the Nintendo console has to offer.

In a surprise Twitter post,Pokemonsuddenly announced thatNew Pokemon Snapwill arrive on the Switch on June 08, 2025. The announcement came with abrand new trailerthat showcased an area called the Lental region. The region will have several islands that have distinct surroundings, from sandy beaches to lush forests. This makes it so players can discover and document different wild Pokemon according to their elemental types and natural habitats.
Though not much was revealed about the game’s main narrative, the video did show off the numerous Pokemon that players will encounter as they traverse through the Lental region on the NEO-ONE, their safari ride. Most Pokemon shown were not included inthe firstNew Pokemon Snaptrailerso fans will be encouraged to spot their favorites among those featured in the video.
The Pokemon Company also shared snippets of the new features inNew Pokemon Snap,including using a local Lental fruit called the fluffruit to entice surrounding Pokemon to pose for the perfect photo op. And according to the official site, players have been called to investigate the Illumina Phenomenon, a unique event that causes the fauna and wild Pokemon in the area to emit a beautiful yet unnatural glow.
The surprise reveal ofNew Pokemon Snap’s release date seems perfectly timed withPokemon’s 25th anniversary celebrations. With lifestyle brand partnerships,collaborations with top music artists, and new merchandise launches, fans are clamoring for aPokemon-centered Nintendo Direct to tie everything together. However, fans will have to settle for sudden news such as this as they wait for an official announcement from the franchise.
