Zion Williamson has been touted as a generational talent, one who could potentially take the mantle from LeBron James as the face of the NBA. This is one of the reasons why he graces the cover of thenext gen version ofNBA 2K21.While fans haven’t been entirely impressed with2K21for a few gameplay/quality of life reasons, Zion is not exactly thrilled with the game because he feels his player rating is too low.

NBA 2K21has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons this year, but with no competition from EA this year, it represents fans' only option if they are looking for a fix of NBA action. Fan frustration boiled over when theMake2KFunAgain hashtag made the roundson Twitter last month. Updates to the game could fix some of the issues, and the team at 2K Sports does adjust certain aspects of the game, like the player rating system.

Knowing that player ratings are tweaked throughout the year, Zion reached out to 2K’s Ronnie Singh—the man in charge ofNBA 2K21’s player ratings—to see if he could give his virtual self a boost. Zion’s push for a higher rating seems to be all in good fun, as an outdated Google search showed Zion at an 81, when in fact he rates as an 86 in the game. Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, all was forgiven. Less forgivable would beNBA 2K21not allowing female custom characters access to The City,2K21’s open-world next-gen content.

Zion’s rating of 86 is about right for the young, talented big man. He spent half of his first season out due to injury and was just rounding into form when the COVID-19 pandemic brought things to a halt. The 86 is proof that Zion has a lot of potential, but still has work to do to reach the highest level of virtual superstardom. He’ll have to watch his back though, as this year’sNBA rookies are added to the mix.

Despite the fact that there are a number of flaws withNBA 2K21, the MyCareer mode is still liked by many for being a robust and engaging create-a-character mode. The inclusion of the WNBA has been a long time coming, so for the women to finally get their due is great. Ultimately, thepros & cons ofNBA 2K21make it a tough game to love, but at least Zion is happy.

NBA 2K21is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
