Summary
My Hero Academiais one of the few shonen anime known for boasting an impressive villain gallery, and while this may be attributed to thefleshed-out nature of these villains, their powerful quirks are what truly set these antagonists apart. Twice’s quirk “Double” accurately represents this aspect, showcasing how the series doesn’t discriminate between heroes and villains in terms of power-scaling.
Twice has remained an integral part ofShigaraki’s villainous crew, even becoming the backbone of the Paranormal Liberation Front later on. All of these feats are a result of Double, a quirk that essentially turns Twice into a one-man army. However, Double is an extremely complex quirk with several intricacies, even becoming detrimental for the user if left unregulated.

Twice’s Quirk: Double
Jin Bubaigawara, commonly known by his villain name Twice, possesses a highly volatile yet extremely versatile quirk. With Double, Twice has the power to create a copy of anything, be it an inanimate object or a human being. However, he can only create one copy at a time, thereby limiting the quirks potential. By excreting a dark-colored liquid through his hands,Twice can conceive a copyof anything his mind desires, albeit with the condition that he must know the precise measurements of the object in question.
Doubles produced through this quirk are indistinguishable from the originals, as they bear the exact same personality and physical attributes, even going as far as possessing the original’s quirk. However, these doubles aren’t exactly that durable, and experiencing pain or damage equivalent to a broken bone is enough for the replicas to disintegrate and fade away.

Twice’s Unique Army of Doubles
Double only allows the user to create one copy of an object at a time, limiting Twice’s potential to create limitless replicas. However, he has found a workaround to this limitation by making a replica of himself and letting his doubles further make their own copies. This would, theoretically, give Twice access to an infinite number of doubles, potentially making an army of his own.
Twice’s Sad Man Parade is based on this very power of the quirk, as he uses hisDoubles to duplicate further, creating a large army to overwhelm his opponents. Despite being relatively weak and easy to dissipate, a Double army can still leave a sizable impact due to the sheer number of replicas created by this move.

Twice’s Quirk Has Many Weaknesses
Double has a couple of weaknesses that bar the quirk from reaching its true potential, though they are rather minor compared to other quirks. The primary weakness of the quirk is the complexity of remembering exact measurements to form a replica, since anything created without proper measurements becomes faulty and disappears after a while. The other major weakness lies in the quirk’s limitation of copying only one object at a time. However, even that limitation can be mitigatedby Twice copying himself.
The rest of Double’s weaknesses pertain to the psychological repercussions associated with the quirk. At one point, Twice went insane after his Double’s tied him up and claimed to be the original, leading toTwice undergoing severe psychological distress. Until the Meta Liberation Army arc, Twice doubted whether he was truly the original Jin, and he would split himself involuntarily if he were to unmask himself. However, it was never exactly explained whether his quirk automatically activates or his split personality disorder forces him to activate the quirk and create a double.

Whenever Twice creates a clone now, he reassures them that they are nothing more than clones, and their purpose is to merely serve the original Twice. If he doesn’t prime his clones beforehand, there is a possibility that they might rebel or start believing that they are the real Twice. These aspects of the quirk show exactly why quirk counseling is necessary, as misuse of such quirks can lead to severe long-term trauma.
Double’s Devastating Ultimate Moves
A few ultimate moves and abilities have been created using Double’s power, with some of these surprisingly belonging to Himiko Toga when she transformed into Twice using his blood. Sad Man’s Parade is the primary ultimate move formed using Double, and both Twiceand Himiko Togahave been seen using this move. It essentially revolves around using Double to copy countless replicas, eventually forming a massive army of clones.
However, Himiko Toga was able to take this ability to its next level duringthe Paranormal Liberation Warby forming Sad Man’s Death Parade, an advanced version of the ultimate move that relies on a colossal number of clones, resulting in widespread destruction. Toga takes this ability up a notch by creating Sad Man’s Legion, a move that involves using Double to form an army of fallen heroes and villains to do her bidding. Sad Man’s Legion is arguably the strongest form of this quirk, utilizing Double to its true potential.
