Summary
Monster Hunter Wilds, the upcoming installment in Capcom’s popularMonster Hunterseries, is set to arrive sometime in 2025 and will likely bring a host of new features along with it. Every newMonster Huntertitle remains faithful to the series' roots by carrying over familiar monsters and gear from past games, but most of them introduce new monsters, new gear, and even new traversal features. Based on the footage revealed so far, it appearsMonster Hunter Wildswill be allowing players to use mounts as they explore the next installment’s world in search of new monsters to hunt.
InMonster Hunter World: Iceborne, players can use a feature called Raider Ride to mount small monster Tailraiders and track larger monsters. While on a Raider Ride and upon pinning a destination on the map, players will then be automatically taken to their destination. If no destination is pinned, the Raider Ride will automatically try to find tracks. This ultimately gives players some time to prepare for a hunt and cuts down on travel time in the process. Unfortunately, these mounts are very limited, as they can’t be controlled directly. However, since it appears players may be given direct control overmounts inMonster Hunter Wilds, it should consider utilizing a traversal feature found inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Monster Hunter Wilds Should ‘Steal’ Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Region-Specific Mounts
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Features Chocobo With Region-Specific Abilities
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthisn’t fully open world. Instead, its world is composed of several large regions that gradually open up as players progress through the game. As the size of each of these regions can be rather daunting, Square Enix ensured players would have an efficient mode of transportation to make exploring every corner of the sizable world more realistic.Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthaccomplishes this by providing players with various Chocobo that function as mounts with traversal abilities unique to the region they are found in.
There are six types ofChocobo players can find inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth— yellow, grey, green, orange, aqua, and blue — most of which have traversal abilities that allow players access to special areas they would be unable to access otherwise. Chocobo found in the Junon region, for instance, are grey and have the ability to climb cliffs. Cosmo Canyon Chocobo, on the other hand, are aqua-colored and have a unique glide ability that allows them to cross large gaps and reach higher platforms. While these abilities are tied to their specific Chocobo and can only be used in the region their Chocobo are found in, they simultaneously assist in making each region’s exploration a distinct experience — a feature that could certainly benefitMonster Hunter Wilds' world.

Region-Specific Mounts in Monster Hunter Wilds Could Spice Up Its Exploration
Judging by what has been revealed so far, it seemsMonster Hunter Wildswill have mounts for players to use while exploring the game’s likely sizable world. As such, it has an opportunity to expand onthe Raider Ride feature introduced inMonster Hunter World: Iceborneby allowing players direct control over their mounts and making each region unique from an exploration standpoint. If each mount had a specific traversal ability, it would simultaneously require the world to have unique platforming features, much like the cliffs inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Although each region inMonster Hunter Wildsis bound to be distinct in various ways, this would help diversify them in terms of exploration as well.
It could very well be thatCapcomhas already implemented a feature like region-specific mounts intoMonster Hunter Wilds, but that remains to be seen. If it has neglected to give the game’s mounts unique traversal abilities, at least players will seemingly have more control over their mounts inMonster Hunter Wildsthan they could inMonster Hunter World: Iceborne.
