Mere hours remain untilSeason 4ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfarekicks off, but in the meantime, Infinity Ward is giving players an idea of what to expect later tonight, and what they should expect is needing a fair amount of storage space freed up.
The next season for bothModern WarfareandCall of Duty: Warzoneis set to start at 11:00 PM PST, and while most players are looking forward to all of the new content that’s about to become available, many are worried about the size of the impending update. It’s no secret thatModern Warfare’s file size is getting too big, with constant updates bringing the current size to nearly 200GB, leaving players worried over whether they’ll even have room to download another big update.

The bad news is that the Season 4 update will be a big one as well, according to Infinity Ward Senior Communications Manager Ashton Williams. On Twitter, Williams plainly stated as much, though she refrained from giving specific numbers or confirming theleaked Season 4 file sizesfrom earlier today that claim the download will require 35-50GB of free space depending on platform.
On the plus side, Williams did confirm that once the download is complete, the installed file will only take up 4GB on players’ hard drives. This, she said, is due to Infinity Ward working to compress the file sizes of “a bunch of assets” in order to address the issue ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s overall file size. Going on, she stated that the studio will continue to “sweep all assets to make size reductions where we can” as well as “further optimize future patches for size.”
That will be a welcome change for players going forward, but for the time being, limited storage space remains a concern for many. To that, Williams reminded players that, if need be, they can free up some space by uninstalling the content packs forModern Warfaremodesthey don’t play.
