The latest entry in theCODfranchise,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, is already set to beone of the franchise’s best-selling games of all time. And that’s because it decided to return to its roots and remove several gameplay mechanics that changed the pace of previous games (dolphin diving, slide canceling, etc.). Those changes have made the game more tactical, requiring players to stop “running n' gunning” and carefully traverse the map instead.

And due to the change in pace (and map design),Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2players are forced to play more close-quarter than long-range combat. One of the best optics for close-quarter combat is theCronen Mini Red Dot,but unlocking it requires players to level up certain weapons.
Cronen Mini Red Dot Overview
Due to the modifications Infinity Ward implemented with the Gunsmith system, players need to level up three guns (1x Assault Rifle, 1x Battle Rifle and 1x Sub-machine Gun) before unlocking the Cronen Mini Red Dot. Once unlocked, players can use the Mini Red Dot on most guns without doing anything else.
The best place to level up these guns (and any gun in general) is play longer game modes like Invasion, Ground War, Hardpoint, or Headquarters. Of course, the better a player does in a match (kills and objectives completed), the more EXP they’ll get for a weapon. Additionally, players can activate 2X Weapon EXP to level up their guns faster.
M4 Assault Rifle
The first step players will need to make is leveling the M4 Assault Rifle to level 13. At this point, players will unlock the FTAC Recon Battle Rifle which is the next step in unlocking the Cronen Mini Red Dot. Fortunately, theM4 is among the best Assault RiflesinCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, so leveling it to level 13 shouldn’t take too long.
FTAC Recon Battle Rifle
Now players will need to use the FTAC Recon Battle Rifle to unlock the next step to obtain the Cronen Mini Red Dot. Players will need to level up the FTAC Recon BR to level 16 to unlock the FSS Hurricane Sub-machine Gun. Some players may struggle to level up the FTAC Battle Rifle since it’s a semi-automatic gun which has a slower fire rate than ARs or SMGs. Some maps likeTaraq and Crown Racewayare ideal to use BRs due to their layout, but others maps like Farm 18 or Mercado Las Almas aren’t as good, making it difficult to land kills.
FSS Hurricane Sub-Machine Gun
The final step to unlock the Cronen Mini Red Dot is to level up the FSS Hurricane to level 3, which shouldn’t take long. Now players are free to use the Mini Red Dot on almost any AR, SMG, and LMG without having to worry about doing anything extra aside from leveling the guns to unlock optics.
