Rumors have been swirling for quite some time now that aMetal Gear Solidremake is in development. According to the rumors, theMetal Gear Solidremake is in development as some kind of collaboration between Sony and Konami, though nothing official has been announced at the time of this writing. Solid Snake actor David Hayter was recently asked about theMetal Gear Solidremake, and based on his information, he thinks that it is real.

While Hayter wasn’t featured inMetal Gear Solid 5, he has portrayedSolid Snakein the vast majority ofMetal Gear Solidvideo games, including the originalMGSgame on the PS1. Hayter was recently interviewed by Dan Allen Gaming, and as one might expect, the topic of the rumoredMetal Gear Solidremake was brought up. Hayter said that he believed that the remake was “just a rumor” until recently, as he received a text from an industry that suggested it could really be happening.

It doesn’t seem as though Hayter has been contacted about reprising his role as Solid Snake in theMetal Gear Solidremake, but the possibility of the developers re-using his previously recorded lines was brought up. Hayter thinks that to be unlikely as the sound quality for theoriginalMetal Gear Solidon PS1would pale in comparison to modern games, and while it’s possible that the voice lines could be pulled fromMetal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, that’s also doubtful.

The conversation then turned to what form theMetal Gear Solidremake could take. As pointed out by Hayter and Dan Allen Gaming, there are really two main routes that could be taken. TheMetal Gear Solidremakecould use fixed camera angles like the original game but just buff up the resolution and graphics quality to match modern standards. Alternatively, it could be a more immersive, third-person experience with the camera following Snake like in more recent entries of theMetal Gear Solidfranchise.

While Hayter hearing of aMetal Gear Solidremake certainly makes it seem more plausible, fans should still keep their expectations in check. And even if it is real, it may be quite some time before fans get a proper look at the game. The rumor is thatBluepoint Games is working on theMetal Gear Solidremake, and that studio just recently launched theDemon’s Soulsremake. Considering this, it may be at least another couple of years before theMetal Gear Solidremake is revealed to the public - assuming it exists at all, that is.
