ForMarvel Snap’s May 2023 season, it introduced a theme centered aroundGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.The season, along with thenew cards like Nebula, inspired many players to create decks based on the popular Marvel movie. One of the staple cards is no other than Starlord himself.

Starlord is one of the first cards that players acquire at the start ofMarvel Snap. It’s a 2-costOn Reveal cardwith 2 power that gets +3 power if an opponent plays in the same place as Starlord in one round. Overall, it’s a versatile card that can be used either as the main hero or a support, depending on the decks' synergies and the locations available.

Building a Starlord Deck in Marvel Snap

WhatMarvel Snapfans need to remember about using Starlord decks is that they have to be able to predict their opponent’s next move to maximize the card’s power. It also helps to have viable support cards that could increase Starlord’s power further, or make it easier to spot where they would play.

The most basic Starlord deck that players build inMarvel Snapis theGuardians of the Galaxy deck. It includes other members of the group, like Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax, and Gamora, which all get additional power if an opponent plays a card in the same location as them. A good support for this deck is Daredevil, which lets players see the cards that opponents put down on Turn 5, so they could strategize where to place their cards to gain more power.

WhenNebula was released last May, many inserted her into their Starlord decks. She’s a 1-cost card with a base power of 1, and she gets +2 power every turn if an opponent doesn’t play in the same location. Players would often tweak their lineup to include cards that would lock down locations, like Professor X and Storm, to make it impossible for opponents to put down cards. Having one less location to work with might be disadvantageous for both players at times, but it will also give them a 50/50 chance to predict where opponents would make their move.

Another popular Starlord deck using Series 3 cards is Sera Control. SinceSera can reduce all cards' cost by 1when she’s played on Turn 5, players could use the sixth and final move to put down Starlord and other Guardians of the Galaxy cards with similar abilities as him for a possible endgame power gain. This also removes the possibility of getting destroyed by Shang-Chi at the end since he only targets 4-cost and above, and being nullified by Enchantress since Starlord and co. aren’t Ongoing cards.

To gain more power, some viable support cards that can be added to Starlord decks are Ironheart, Odin, and Nova. First, Ironheart is an On Reveal card that gives three friendly cards +2 power. She can be played onKamar-Tajto double up her On Reveal activation. Next up, Odin triggers the On Reveal effects of all cards in the same location. So, if he’s placed in the same spot as Starlord and other Guardians cards, with the opponent doing the same, On Reveal abilities can be triggered once more.

Lastly, Nova gives all units +1 power when he’s destroyed. It’s best to haveDestroy cardslike Killmonger and Carnage on hand. Players just need to make sure that they haven’t played Rocket, so it doesn’t get destroyed by Killmonger, who throws knives at all 1-cost units.

Marvel Snapcan take a lot of skill and adaptability to the different locations available in every match. For beginners, the Starlord deck is a great way to get a feel of the game.
