Summary
Hopes are high forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2based on what has been shown thus far, and it wouldn’t be surprising to hear that much of the game has already been explicitly alluded to, if not revealed in full. Indeed, it seems as if there couldn’t possibly be anything larger at play than what has already been shown, with a potential look at Kraven’s and Venom’s boss fights even revealed through concept art. If fans can expectall this content to make its way intoMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, then there may not be room for any significant surprises. Still, smaller details could have as profound of an effect.
A multitude of suit skins have already been revealed via their exclusivity inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Deluxe Edition as well as two pre-order skins that purchasers of any edition will receive, though there are still undoubtedly many more suits unlockable in-game that have not been shown yet. Moreover, after all the recenttalk about main menus spurred on by aStarfielddebate, it’s interesting to consider whatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s main menu screen might look like, and clues fromMarvel’s Spider-ManandMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Moralesmay suggest a clear answer.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Has a Trend with Its Main Menu Screens
Marvel’s Spider-ManandMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Moraleshave incredibly simple start screens, but that simplicity paired with remarkable soundtracks for each make them as engaging as they need to be. Instead of a static screen, both games feature their title protagonist in real time. Peter’s Spider-Man clings to the side of a building in full costume with a sunrise illuminating New York City behind him, while Miles is in street clothing and browsing through his phone while riding a subway train.
Like any game, players will most likely not be spending any considerable time looking at either of these menus, but to have them as dynamic screens with exhilarating themes playing over them is a wonderful choice. Each game highlights that particular Spider-Man and Miles being out of costume and on a subway only further represents how much of a street-level and friendly neighborhood Spider-Man he is, whilePeter’s Spider-Man was Insomniac’s original entryand is shown off as such in all his costumed glory.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Main Menu Will Likely Celebrate Its Two Protagonists
If this trend is to be followed inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, then fans can likely expect both Peter and Miles to be in a dynamic frame together. This could take fromMarvel’s Spider-Manand simply have them overlooking a wide vista, but a more fun take on a menu screen could have them perched and enjoying food or drinks while in costume, similar to how Peter is drinking coffee with a rolled-up mask at the beginning ofMiles Moralesbefore they pursue a fleeing Rhino. Regardless, it is nearly guaranteed that both of them will make it into the main menu start screen since this will be the first entry from Insomniac where they are both playable as full-fledged Spider-Men.
In celebration of Peter and Miles working together as Spider-Men, it would seem out of place for the menu screen to have any darker implications on it, such as showing Peter wearing the symbiote, and because the game will likely end with Peter and Miles’ conflicts resolved it would be great to showcase that joviality in the main menu. Rather,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2could also break its main menu screen traditions anddraw inspiration fromThe Last of Us Part 2by having a dynamic menu screen that changes to something else once players have finished the story, which could help it represent whatever shift in tone or narrative its story takes.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2launches on October 20, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
