Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is a game that manages to include more and it still maintains the quality. That’s the trouble with a lot of open-world games that want to push the boundaries in sequels. In the case of this game, the map is bigger, there are two heroes to play, and the list goes on.

There are even more characters from friends to random NPCs to villains. Yet, it never feels crowded which is a great thing. From returning characters to new ones, here are some of the best inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.

J. Jonah Jameson in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

8J. Jonah Jameson

Editor/Podcaster

J. Jonah Jamesonis kind of a villain in the game and the overall comic series. He’s definitely a thorn in Peter’s side or in this game’s case, MJ since she works for him. While he may be a brute, he’s hilarious in his old ways.

JJ is too wild to take seriously from his political rants on Spider-Man on his podcast to his berating of MJ over her stories. Unlike the first game, JJ makes several in-game appearances which is a treat for fans who were waiting for him before.

Mysterio in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

7Quentin Beck

Mysterio

Quentin makes an appearancethrough Coney Island wherein he sets up a virtual reality tour for Miles. After the ride goes haywire, players are tasked with investigating what is going wrong around the city.

At first, it seems like Quentin is up to his old Mysterio ways but it eventually gets revealed that Quentin’s assistants were trying to frame him. Quentin had indeed given up being a villain but sometimes it is hard to escape that reality from other people. He has a great quote in the game right before departing. “It’s when you start looking at the people behind the masks that things get messy.”

MJ in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

6Mary Jane Watson

Reporter/Peter’s GF

MJ has more of a direct rolein this sequel although it’s still not as massive as Peter’s or Miles’ stories. She’s trying to make her life work with Peter as Spider-Man while supporting them financially. She hates her job as she has to work with the aforementioned JJ which eventually comes to a boiling point.

Yet she does it for Peter because she loves him and also wants to do good in the world with her writing. Besides her playable missions, MJ becomes a boss for a hot second when a symbiote turns her into Scream which is quite a dramatic moment.

Mr. Negative in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

5Martin Li

Mr. Negative

Mr. Negative was one of the two main villains in the first game alongside Doc Ock.Mr. Negative returns inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2as a prisoner, getting whisked away by Kraven who wants to hunt him for sport.

Throughout the game, Mr. Negative is calming his anger as he sees what he did to Miles and his family. By the end, Martin is the one who comes out of the villain, feeling refreshed from the experience of interacting with both Peter and Miles. Without him, Miles would not have been able to confront his inner demons which helped him evolve.

Yuri in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

4Yuri Watanabe

Wraith

Yuri was a cop who witnessed a downfall in her precinct in previous adventures. She returns inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2as Wraith, a crime-fighting vigilante who is perfectly fine with killing villains for the greater good.

Yuri has a great quote she mouths off to Peter after he lets The Flame go. “I’d rather lose sleep over the one person I kill than all the ones I didn’t save.” She wants revenge against The Flame but it’s all about saving people as well, which Peter, as Spider-Man, constantly wrestled with.

Peter in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

3Peter Parker

Spider-Man

Peter is the OG Spider-Manand the one iteration of the character that a lot of people fell in love with. It’s hard not to like Peter because even though he has helped stop universe-ending events in the comics, at the end of the day he’s just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

He has no qualms about stopping bank robber after bank because his whole philosophy revolves around giving people another chance. That’s why Quentin and other villains in the game turned their lives around. It’s because Peter never gave up on them. He’s a pure soul in the comics and he is a pure soul in the game even though he has a rebellious moment with the Venom-based suit.

Miles in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

2Miles Morales

While Peter is the OG Spider-Man and has some good moments in the game,Miles hits it out of the park. His arc is greater because it shows another, more angry side to Miles involving Mr. Negative. He almost kills him at one point but then he reflects on his actions and realizes that Mr. Negative, as Martin Li, is changing.

He may not be able to forgive Martin for killing his father, but Miles is willing to bury the hatchet to save Peter and the city of New York. Of the two Spider-Man characters, Miles evolves the most and he even gets a girlfriend by the end via Hailey.

Harry in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

1Harry Osborn

Venom

Every great hero story has a villain behind it. While Kraven is the central villain for a good majority, the story takes its time with Harry which is what makes him a great and sympathetic character. He is finally feeling better after wasting away in a tank, so Harry wants to spend as much time with Peter as possible.

However, Peter keeps blowing him off for this that, and that next thing which takes a toll on Harry mentally. He even sees Peter with his father Norman and becomes jealous. All of these feelings boil over when the Venom symbiote takes over his body inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2. His ending is bittersweet even though he technically doesn’t die. Will he return as a villain or a hero, if at all, inMarvel’s Spider-Man 3?
