NetEase Games commenced a beta test from July 23 that will run for two weeks, allowing players to try outMarvel Rivals' full selection of superheroes, including Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Scarlet Witch.
There are21 confirmed characters in theMarvel Rivalslineup, but little Easter eggs scattered around the various maps could hint at the arrival of two familiar faces. After the long-anticipated release ofSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verselast year and the understandable buzz surrounding the newDeadpool & Wolverinemovie, it makes perfect sense for NetEase to introduce Marvel’s Merc With a Mouth, Wade Wilson, and one of Spider-Man’s female variants, Spider-Gwen.
AsMarvel Rivalsis a free-to-play title, the assumption is that NetEase will introduce new characters, skins, and cosmetics gradually over time. Some eagle-eyed players have spotted teasers that could suggest the imminent arrival of Deadpool and Spider-Gwen toMarvel Rival’s stacked roster. For Spider-Gwen, her insignia appears on a drum kit on the Spider Islands map. The kit is spray-painted white and pink to represent Spider-Gwen’s suit, while the eyes of Gwen’s mask adorn the central bass drum. As for Deadpool, his hint is a lot more subtle. Wade Wilson’s unmistakable mask can be found printed on a post-it style sticker in the Shibuya level.

It is unclear as yet whether Spider-Gwen and Deadpool will join the roster, as this is mere conjecture until NetEase makes an official announcement. Still, there has been plenty of discourse online concerning whether Spider-Gwen will be her own entity or merely an extension of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man as a purchasable skin. It could also be a possibility for Deadpool to haveseveral interchangeable skins inMarvel Rivalsto represent his many variants, such as Lady Deadpool, Dogpool, Evil Deadpool, etc.
This isn’t the first time that NetEase has teased a skin for an existingMarvel Rivalscharacter. Bag-Man was teased in the Tokyo 2099 Spider Islands map before becoming an available skin along with Spider-Punk. Another closed beta forMarvel Rivalsgave fuel for dataminers to uncover 20 potential characters coming to the lineup in the near future, including The Fantastic Four, Venom, Rocket Raccoon, and even Squirrel Girl.
