Magic: The Gatheringis a game with a ton of history and a whole lot of lore. As Cryptic Studios attempts to bring the essence of the popular collectible card game to the action RPG genre withMagic Legends, there is obviously a lot of potential toinclude iconic characters, locations from past sets, and cards. That list of references and Easter Eggs will likely also include some of the most powerful cards that were ever printed in the game.
ThroughoutMagic Legends, players will find cards that they can use to build a deck which will determine what spells they can cast and which summons can enter the battlefield under their control throughout any given level. The cards that are picked up are heavily influenced by the actual pool of cards that have been released throughoutMagic’slong history. As many players may have been hoping, the list of cards will include somevery iconicMagicrares and mythics from over the years, including at least one of the Power Nine at launch.

During a recent interview withMagic LegendsExecutive Producer Stephen Ricossa, Game Rant had a chance to pry a bit for some more details aboutEaster Eggs such as the Power Nineappearing inMagic Legendsand Ricossa was able to confirm that one will be available at launch and others will likely follow over time…
Game Rant: Any plans for Power Nine Easter Eggs or Power Nine in the card sets that are available? Or other references to other iconic Magic cards and lore.
Stephen Ricossa: Yes, the goal is for people who don’t know to just think the world who is cool, but people who are deep in the know will see and have those kind of references.
Game Rant: As far as the cards that are available, can you say if any of the Power Nine will be a card that you can equip?
Stephen Ricossa: We are slow rolling that out, but a member of the Power Nine will probably make an appearance at launch. And we’re going to slowly roll them out. We can’t have everybody’s favorite nine in the game right from the start!
After working on Neverwinter, Cryptic Studios clearly has a lot of experience adding an existing property’s flavor to a new game. The world ofNeverwinteris full oflittle Easter Eggs forDungeons and Dragonsfansto uncover and geek out about and it sounds likeMagic Legendsis heading in a similar direction. We’ll certainly be keeping our eyes out for a grizzly with the right the bear arms.
In terms of power level, it will be very interesting to see how overpowered some of the more iconic cards feel when they make their way into playable decks. Those sort of details will likely be revealed in the coming months as the launch approaches and testing eventually moves into more of an open beta model.
There is only one remaining launch class left to reveal, so hopefully the team at Cryptic is ready to offer a look at what the Black-mana planeswalker class has to offer in the very near future. Until then, be sure to check back for moreMagic Legendsnews, updates, and features.
