Life is Strange, an episodic adventure game, was released in 2015. Players followed the five-episode story of protagonist Max Caulfield, a college photography student who learns she can rewind time, giving players control over how the story unfolded, as every choice Max made impacted later events, which players could later change with her rewinding powers. After receiving critical acclaim for its gameplay and emotional story,Life is Strangereleased subsequent titles: the prequelLife is Strange: Before the Storm, released in August 2017;Life is Strange 2, released in September 2018; andLife Is Strange: True Colors,released in September 2021.
Life is Strange: Double Exposuredebuted during the Xbox Games Showcase, where the game’s developer, Deck Nine, also revealed that it’s bringing back Max as the protagonist when the game releases on October 29. But if players want access to the first two episodes ofLife is Strange: Double Exposuretwo weeks early, they can buy the Ultimate Edition for $80 versus the standard $50 edition.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure Ultimate Edition Could Spoil Fans
Life is Strange: Double Exposure’s trailer confirmed that a new supernatural murder mystery is afoot, and Max will, once again, use her time rewind power to try to solve it. With this new, intriguing story – and not knowing iffan-favorite Chloe Price will return– the early access leaves many fans worried they’ll be spoiled if they don’t spend an extra $30 to play the game early.
In addition to early access for the first two episodes,Life is Strange: Double Exposure’s Ultimate Edition gives fans several outfit packs, including a Spooky Outfit Pack, Decades Outfit Pack, Fan Favorite Outfit Pack, Paw Prints Cat Outfit Pack, andFinal Fantasy 7Outfit Pack. The Ultimate Edition will also include an exclusive cat side quest that spans the game, where Max will discover a lost cat and must reunite it with its owner. Although cosmetic perks are a nice bonus, and typical for special editions, it does not seem to be enough for fans to warrant the $30 price hike and two-week spoiler potential. “I found the two weeks aspect bizarre, but what’s really crazy is it’s $30 more. Yes, you get a bunch of extra outfits but even for that the price tag seems massive,”a fan wrote on Reddit.
In addition to special game copies, Square Enix is selling aLife is Strange: Double ExposureCollector’s Editionfrom its store for $60, which does not even include the game. Square Enix encourages fans to buy a digital version of the game if they plan to purchase the Collector’s Edition. It comes with a Collector’s Edition box, a 12-inch vinyl soundtrack with 13 songs from the game, a 32-page mini-hardcover art book with exclusive concept art, four double-sided 12-inch art cards, and Max’s owl pin replica.
