Unlike its predecessor,Life Is Strange: Before The Stormdoesn’t have a gimmick like the firstLife Is Strangedid with its protagonist, Max Caulfield’s,ability to rewind time. The first game presented players with puzzles and challenges that forced the player to utilize this ability to rewind time in order to dictate a certain conversation outcome or physically move and rewind objects in order to overcome an impasse.

Life Is Strange: Before The Stormdoesn’t have a time reversal gimmick, however, it does present players withchallenges that they must overcome without the use of superpowers.Chloe Price, the protagonist of the prequel, is a character known for her quick wit and creative solutions to stubbornly get what she (or those around her whom she cares for) wants. This game mechanic that makes players use the environment and characters around them to overcome a challenge makes sense for Chloe as the main playable character.

Step 1: Locate The Keys

Getting the dormitory keys isn’t a tedious process, but it can be if players don’t know what they’re looking for. After trying to enter the locked dormitory, players need to head back to the utility shed where Samuel stands, tinkering with a fuse box. To the left of Samuel, on the round table right by the door, are the dormitory keys.

Chloe will be unable to take them, as Samuel is standing right there, but she’ll acknowledge that she needs to distract him in order to swipe the keys.

Step 2: Break The Sprinkler

In order to lure Samuel away from the utility shed, players must break the sprinkler that Evan is crouched by as he tries to take a picture of a bird that he lured over with some piles of seeds sprinkled around the courtyard. As long as Evan is beside the sprinkler, players will be unable to break it. In order for Evan to move away from the sprinkler, Chloe needs to scare the bird he’s trying to photograph away four times.

Each time Chloe scares the bird it’ll fly over to another nearby pile of birdseed, but if it’s scared four simultaneous times it’ll fly over to the totem further into the courtyard. Once Evan goes away to photograph the bird on the totem pole,Chloe can break the sprinkler.

Step 3: Take The Keys

Once the sprinkler is smashed, this will trigger a cutscene where the sprinkler is turned on and Samuel rushes out of the utility shed and over to fix the broken sprinkler. After he’s left the utility shed, Chloe can enter and take the keys to unlock the dormitory.

There will be anoption for players to graffiti the white wallat the back of the utility shed now that Samuel is gone. Afterward, players should walk up to the once-locked door of the dormitory and unlock it to progress the story.
