Of course, players still have free rein to build in almost any direction they like. Leaders just tend to make one path to victory far easier than most.

While this would admittedly break the game’s historical accuracy, it would enable the player to mix-and-match leader abilities to further customize their civ. Players could grab leaders that provide advantages in different areas or combine two like-minded leaders to supercharge their civ towards one specific victory path. Another such idea that could work is allowing players to put different leaders in charge of different civs to let their uniques and abilities find new synergy.

A New Mode Could Make Civilization’s Earth Even Wilder

Such a radical change might not fit well for all players, though. That’s why it would be best ifCivilization 7made a new game modefor such an ambitious endeavor. It would be a fun remix of the game’s formula, but removing the traditional playstyle entirely would probably upset a lot of players. That’s why it would be best if mixing-and-matching leaders and civs were left as an option or a separate game mode. That way, players who want to experiment with new options would be fully capable of doing so, while a more traditionalCivilization 7experience would still be available.
