A brand-new key visual for the third season of thepopular isekai anime series,KONOSUBA: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!released on Thursday by Kadokawa revealed that the anticipated next installment in the franchise will be coming in 2024. The announcement comes in the aftermath of the final episode of the first season of spin-off seriesKONOSUBA: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!, which had been airing this Spring season.The news first broke on the series' official website, with the main staff and cast members announced alongside the reveal of the “ultra teaser visual” featuring the series' main characters.RELATED:The KonoSuba Effect - How Comedy Became Inseparable From IsekaiThe first two seasons ofKONOSUBApremiered in January 2016 and 2017 respectively, with the animated film,KONOSUBA - God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World– Legend of Crimsonhitting the Japanese box office in November 2019. Thespin-off series featuring Megumin as the main characterbegan airing in April and concluded on Thursday, running for 12 episodes.TheKONOSUBAanime series is based on the original light novel series created by Natsume Akatsuki and Kurone Mishima (The Devil Is a Part-Timer! High School!),which concluded in May 2020 with its 17th volume. The spin-off novels were first published in July 2014, running for five volumes until May 2019. The series has also been adapted into manga and video games.
The teaser visual features a picturesque shot of green grass for the first third of the frame, with the main characters walking energetically in single-file in the middle of the frame, and the mountains and sky in the background taking up the majority of the space, creating a feeling reminiscent of Windows XP. The third season ofKONOSUBAwill be animated by staff at Drive, who were behindthis Spring season’sKONOSUBAspin-offand a change from Studio DEEN, who animated the previous two seasons.
Direction ofKONOSUBAseason 3 will be done by Yujiro Abe (episode director,Kaguya-sama: Love is War), while Takaomi Kanasaki, who directed the previous two seasons, will return to serve as Chief Director. Other returning staff include series composer Makoto Uezu and character designer Koichi Kikuta. The four main cast members return to their roles from previous seasons, with Jun Fukushima as Kazuma, Rie Takahashi as Megumin, Ai Kayano as Darkness, and Sora Amamiya as Aqua.KONOSUBAseason 3 is set to arrive sometime in 2024.
