Square Enix shockedKingdom Heartsfans when it revealedKingdom Hearts 4, showcasing a new art style for the series as Sora battled against a massive Heartless in a modern day city. Now series creator Tetsuya Nomura has shed more light on what fans can expect fromKingdom Hearts 4in an interview that was published by Japanese magazineFamitsu.
Based on the English translation of the interview (which means that some of the information could very well be minsinterpreted, so keep that in mind), the room seen in the trailer will act as Sora’s home base in Quadratrum.Quadratum is the setting ofKingdom Hearts 4, and it features an alternate version Shibuya, Tokyo, though it is not the same Shibuya that is featured inThe World Ends With Youseries.

Another interesting story detail mentioned is that the voice narration heard in theKingdom Hearts 4reveal traileris from a character that fans already know about, but haven’t heard speak before. It’s unclear who this could be, but it’s possible that hardcoreKingdom Heartsfans will be able to figure it out.
And finally, the interview also touches on some of the gameplay changes that will be featured inKingdom Hearts 4. As far as combat goes,Kingdom Hearts 4is said to be bringing back the reaction command fromKingdom Hearts 2. Apparently there was fan demand for it to return after it was absent fromKingdom Hearts 3. There will also be a new build command that players will be able to use, though more details on what exactly that will entail has to wait for a later date.
The interview gives fans some more information on what to expect fromKingdom Hearts 4, though is far from a deep dive into the game. Unfortunately, it’s unclear exactly when fans will get to learn Hearts 4, as Square Enix didn’t reveal a release date or release window for the game. There was four years between the reveal ofKingdom Hearts 3and when the game finally came out, so it’s quite possible that fans will be waiting a long time. After all,Kingdom Hearts 4isn’t Nomura’s only project.
Nomura is also working onFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, and is likely working on other projects that have yet to even be revealed to the public. Considering this, it may be quite some time beforeKingdom Hearts 4is shown again, but hopefully the wait isn’t too long.
