Lockpickingis an essential aspectof theKingdom Come: Deliverancegameplay. Gamers will need good lockpicking skills to break into locked buildings and open secured containers. For many players, lockpicking can be one of the more frustrating aspects of the gameplay.

However, with a few simple methods, any player can master the art. Finding lockpicks at the beginning of the game can be puzzling as well, but this guide will walk players through where to find them and how to use them appropriately.

Where To Find Lockpicks

There are a total of three merchants inKingdom Come: Deliverancethat sell lockpicks. The first merchant players will be able to buy them from is in Talmberg. The NPC is named Votava and can be interacted with right after the Hungarian army leaves the city in the beginning of the game. Votava is located right next to the gate that players will use to exit the city. Gamers can buy up to ten lockpicks from him. Later in the game, Votava will be in an inconvenient location, so players will want to unlock the other merchants.

The Good Thief

Players will need to complete “The Good Thief” quest to unlock the two additional merchants. Shortly after the prologue, Henry will awaken at the miller’s home in Rattay. The miller’s name is Peshek. If players speak with him, he will provide “The Good Thief” quest. When Peshek asks if Henry can pick a lock, players should respond “I can’t pick a lock”. The miller will then take Henry to the back of the mill to practice lockpicking. At the end of the quest, players will be able to use Miller Woyzeck as a fence for stolen goods. He will sell 20 lockpicks that replenish more often than Votava’s. Miller Peshek will also then be available as a fence and lockpick merchant.

Practicing Lockpicking

Lockpicking is notoriously difficult inKingdom Come: Deliverance. While attempting to level up the skill, gamers can return to Peshek and pay to gain one lockpicking level every five lockpicking levels. The price is steep at 60 coins, but it is better than grinding to level up.  The best place to practice is Peshek’s practice chest at the back of the mill. Players can create an autosave before practicing, that way they can just return to their save after breaking all of their lockpicks. After successfully unlocking the practice chest, all players have to do is look in the crest, close it and spin 360 degrees. After spinning around, the chest will be locked once again. Once players have unlocked it ten times, however, the chest will no longer lock again.

Lockpicking Basics

On controller, players will use the right thumbstick to navigate the pick inside of the lock and the left thumbstick to simultaneously rotate the lock. Using the right thumb stick, players should move the small icon around in the lock until it turns gold. The gold indicator means that the pick is in the correct location in the lock. While holding this position, gamers need to use the left thumb stick to fully rotate the lock around. On mouse and keyboard,  players will use the mouse to move the lockpick and hold D to rotate the lock. Lockpicking is much easier on mouse and keyboard, as players will only need to worry about the lockpick instead of performing two different motions with the thumb sticks.

Leveling Up

As soon as players reach level three in lockpicking, it is essential that they equip the Lasting Lockpicks perk. Gamers should reach this level by unlocking the practice chest ten times. The Lasting Lockpicks perk will allow players to use lockpicks for two times longer. As a result, it is far more difficult to break lockpicks while the perk is active. Gamers will need to spend less money on lockpicks and they will be able to successfully pick locks at a much higher percentage.

Once the practice chest is permanently open, players will need to find more locks to pick. One of the easiest methods is to walk around any city at night and practice picking the locks of the various homes in the city. Gamers that do not enter the homes will have only a small chance of getting caught. Once a full day has passed, all of the doors in the city will be locked again. Repeating this process is the most efficient way to level up lockpicking. Henry should return to Peshek every five levels and purchase an additional one.

Unlock Deft Grip At Level 6

At level six, players can unlock the Deft Grip Perk. This perk makes the starting position of the lockpick closer to the end of the lock, making each lock easier to open. Deft grip effectively makes the correct position of the pick closer to the center of the lock, which makes it much easier to control the pick while rotating the lock. Lasting Lockpicks and Deft Grip are by far the most useful perks at lower levels. Players struggling with their lockpicking need to be using these perks.
