The next entry in theJohn Wickseries has just gotten one degree of separation closer toSpongebob Squarepants. The latest addition to its powerful cast of big names is none other than Mr. Krabs himself, Clancy Brown. Of course, Brown may be even more famous for roles like Byron Hadley inThe Shawshank Redemptionand voicing Lex Luthor in many DC animated productions, as well as starring as the villain in theupcomingDexter: New Bloodrevival.
John Wick 4has just brought Brown into the fold to play a currently unknown role in the headshot-loving franchise’s newest sequel. While his part in the film is still a mystery, it seems there’s still plenty of excitement surrounding this new development. Aside from Brown himself seemingly enthusiastic to join the series, director Chad Stahelski appears to see his inclusion as a tremendous honor.

“I have been a fan of Clancy Brown’s since I can remember,” Stahelski said to Deadline. “To have him be a part of this project is an honor. He will make a perfect addition tothe World ofJohn Wick!” Given how long Brown has been tearing it up in Hollywood, both on screen and in the recording booth, it’s not really surprising to see someone like the director being so starstruck to work together. It looks like Brown himself is all set to go as well, if his subtle acknowledgment of the news on Twitter is anything to go by.
Brown will be joining the Keanu Reeves-led series alongsideother newcomers like Donnie Yenand Bill Skarsgård. Given how the previous movie ended, it seems the stakes have somehow elevated even further afterJohn Wick 1-3all based their stories entirely on raising those same stakes. Hey, if it isn’t broke, no reason to fix it. The film will also see yet another return of fan favorites such as Ian McShane’s now questionably-allied Winston andLance Reddick’s reliable concierge Charon.
Funnily enough, this will mark only the second time Reeves and Brown have shared a production, with the first being 2020’sThe Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run. Brown reprised his long-time role as Mr. Krabs while Reeves played a wise spirit residing in a tumbleweed. (Look,it’sSpongebob. It creates memes. The fewer questions asked, the happier everyone will be.) So seeing them together in this super violent sequel may cause just a touch of whiplash for a few viewers residing in that very specific “lovesSpongebobbut also loves bloody action” demographic.
Whatever role he ends up playing, Brown is sure to be a fantastic addition to the team. He’s played heroes, villains, bosses, generals, and a talking crab, so he’s bound to be ready for anything. Maybe he’ll actually play Mr. Krabs andJohn Wick 4will end up being a giant, surreal crossover. Hey, it costs nothing to dream.
