WithGrand Theft Auto 6finally confirmed to be in development, fans have been clamoring for more information regarding the next game in the franchise. It has been close to a decade since the previous game’s release andGrand Theft Auto 5continues to top sales charts consistentlyevery year, despite many fans still urging Rockstar Games to move on from the stories of Michael, Trevor, and Franklin.
In a community post on Rockstar’s website, the developer laid out plans for the next-gen version ofGTA 5on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, includingthe release date for bothGTA 5andGTA Online. However, the news that struck most fans attention was the announcement that development onGrand Theft Auto 6had finally begun.

While it’s still early to determine when players can expect the game to release, some fans and insiders have voiced their opinions on when they can expect theGTA 6’srelease window. In a tweet responding to Rockstar’s announcement, Jason Schreier of Bloomberg speculated that Rockstar would not only announce the release date forGrand Theft Auto 6this year, but that the release date could be as soon as late 2023, or sometime into 2024.
In Schreier’s tweet, he specifically denotes the late 2023 date as “fake,” seemingly with the implication that if Rockstar announced this date, it would only be for promotional hype purposes, and not because Rockstar could feasibly release the game in that time frame. This would not be the first time a Rockstar title would experience delays, asRed Dead Redemption 2suffered from extensive release delaysafter the game’s initial announcement.
Despite the skepticism of Schreier’s tweet, there may be some truth to the game’s release being within the next year or two. However, this may cause problems for Rockstar if the title is launched too early, as was the case forGTA The Trilogy, which launched with a plethora of bugs andhad players demanding refunds.
With the release ofTake-Two’s financial report, there may be some suggestion to the claim that fans will be seeingGrand Theft Auto 6releasing very soon. Hopefully the title is able to live up to players expectations after spending so much time in Los Santos.
