NetherRealm Studios fans were treated to some exciting news during DC FanDome 2021, and while there was with a focus onInjustice, it was not what many fans would have preferred. DC FanDome highlighted the animatedInjusticefilm with a showcase hosted by Geoff Keighley, where Keighley interviewed Ed Boon, NetherRealm’s Creative Director andInjustice’s co-creator.
Boon was joined by Justin Hartley, who voices Superman in theInjusticefilm. Together, they were asked about their thoughts on the film and, in particular, Boon’s reaction to seeing the animatedadaptation ofInjustice: Gods Among Us. But as Boon states, the film takes after the comic book adaptation rather than the games. Regardless of how fans and critics respond to the film, however, many still wish that anotherInjustice-related announcement had been made instead during the showcase.

Though today’s DC FanDome 2021 is still airing at the time of this writing, it appears unlikely that an announcement for a third Injustice installment will take place. NetherRealm fans have since shared their disappointment in this revelation. NetherRealm’s latest game,Mortal Kombat 11, recently concluded its post-launch content and active development cycle. Now, fans have already begun wishlisting different characters that couldlikely appear in anInjustice 3. However, with no such news gracing DC FanDome as of yet, fans have been left feeling deflated. It could be some time before a newInjusticegame happens, if one even happens at all.
While waiting patiently and optimistically for anannouncement ofInjustice 3, fans have shared humorous posts of their reactions to the evident lack of news. Based upon the displeasure that fans are expressing during DC FanDome, it is clear that the majority of NetherRealm fans expect a third Injustice installment to be focused on next.
Indeed, if it were to be announced at all, it is not strange to believe that a panel showcase at a DC-centered event would be the place to do so. Still, with GeoffKeighley’s The Game Awardsarriving in December, there could still be a stage better suited for the reveal.
BothSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice LeagueandGotham Knightsreceived narrative-oriented trailers with in-engine footage, so perhaps today’s DC FanDome will have satiated fans of those titles and developers at least. Nonetheless, even ifInjustice 3is somewhere on the horizon, fans will have to wait until an official announcement is made about the future ofInjustice.
