Call of Duty: Modern Warfarerecently received a huge update that added plenty of new content for it andWarzone, addingnew game modes, tweaks to variousCoDguns, and much more; however, it also had the adverse effect of being 30 GBs in size. Across all platforms, this puts the game’s file size at around 200 GBs, give or take, which is insane for one game.

Understandably, many aren’t happy about this, especially fans of the shooter who lack hard drive expansions and the like. Infinity Ward did make it clear, though, that it was aware of this and is taking steps to address it and hopefully soothe hard drives bogged down byCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s massive file size.

In a recent interview, Infinity Ward Production Diector Paul Haile was asked how keenly aware the team is of the game’s rampantly growing size. Haile’s answer seems like a first step, but there’s a good chanceModern Warfareplayers would like to see more in the future. In his own words,

“Modern WarfareandWarzoneare both massive experiences with tons of ways to play and new content being added regularly, and we are cognizant of the overall download size. As a team, we are committed to updating the game with new free content of course, but have also taken steps for overall footprint management, including a DLC pack management screen for console users. This allows players to pick and choose which DLC packs they want to keep, and remove the others to recover more space.”

Players canuninstallModern Warfare’s Campaign and Spec Opson consoles to free up more room, but the level of micro-management needed speaks for itself. The real question becomes what Infinity Ward does down the line, as more and more content is clearly on the pipeline, and there will always be those who want to keep as much DLC content as possible.

Witheverything inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, it seems safe to say the game is a juggernaut, and there’s a lot of hope this success translates to another big release inCall of Duty2020. Rumors point toward a potential “Black Ops: Cold War” title that may do for theBlack Opssubfranchise what 2019’s release did for theModern Warfarefranchise. One big hope that comes toModern Warfaresoon and is seen in future releases is a better way to manage the game as a whole.
