The RPG genre has always had a prominent place in gaming, and its influence has only continued to grow over the last few decades. While games used to be split pretty clearly into categories based on their genre and gameplay style, it’s a little harder to categorize modern titles in the same way. As the video game landscape has evolved, more and moregames have started blending genres together, like action games taking some racing elements, or an adventure game borrowing some common horror tropes. But by far the most popular genre merge has been the RPG and just about any other type of game, and that includes FPS titles likeImmortals of Aveum.
Set to release in just a month’s time,Immortals of Aveumhas the potential to be one of the most exciting games of the Summer. Coming from developers that have worked onCall of Dutyand other popular FPS franchises,Immortals of Aveumtakes players to the titular fantasy world of Aveum, which is currently stuck in an eternal Everwar. Players need to suit up as Jak, a powerful new mage in this world, as he tries to take down the opposing factions with his magical gun-like abilities, and along the way they’ll find plenty of RPG-style loot to equip, with the most important item being the Sigil.

How Immortals of Aveum’s Sigils Work
Much like a slew of other action-adventure games nowadays,Immortals of Aveumis borrowing a few mechanics from the RPG genre. Players will be able to unlock new spells as they progress through the game, as well as level up their character, unlocking new Talents along the way that grant the player special abilities in combat. On top of that,Immortals of Aveumwill also have a rudimentary gear system, with each piece of equipment increasing a specific stat.
Currently, four types of gear are confirmed forImmortals of Aveum. These include Bracers, an item that primarily boosts the player’s defensive capabilities, Rings, which augment and upgrade the Fury spell type, Totems, which offer various boosts to movement and spell handling, and finally, Sigils. Arguably the most important of the lot, Sigils are used to improve and augmentImmortals of Aveum’s three different types of magic. Players will be able to equip three Sigils at one time, one for each color of magic that the player can wield. These are the Sigils currently confirmed to appear inImmortals of Aveum:
A Sigil’s primary purpose inImmortals of Aveumis to boost the stats of the player’s magical abilities, though some Sigils provide a more generally helpful boost than others. The Purified Arclight Sigil, for instance, is a pre-order bonus piece of gear that enhances the power of any blue Strike spells, as well asthe Shatter Fury spell. The Triarch’s Wrath Sigil - only available in the Deluxe Edition ofImmortals of Aveum- has an incredibly useful ability, able to be assigned to any color spell slot, and boosting the critical damage of the chosen one. The Lucent Maelstrom is another great example of a more generally useful Sigil, increasing all green magic power by 15%. And finally, there’s the Lucent Burstfire Sigil, which increases maximum projectile distance by 100%.
But then there are those Sigils that offer a more specific type of bonus. TheWildland Seekershards Sigil, for example, changes the Torrent spell so that it just launches one huge missile that deals 200% increased damage. The Premic Arclight Sigil is similarly limited, offering increased critical damage of 15% but only for the Arclight spell. Players will need to choose their Sigils carefully, finding the best combinations for their own particular playstyle.
