Although it has been clear thatFinal Fantasy 16will not feature a large open world for players to explore, the regions of Valisthea are still significant in size. Exploration on foot will be how protagonist Clive Rosfield will go about his business for much of the early portion of the game, but that will thankfully change once players complete a certain side quest.
This side quest in question will reintroduce a familiar friend back into the fold and enable Clive to cover larger distances at a much faster speed. That’s right,Final Fantasy 16will see aChocobo mountbecome a part of the family, and it is definitely a welcome sight if players are intent on seeking out every nook and cranny in this new world.

The side quest in question is calledThe White-Winged Wonder. A resident in the town ofMartha’s Restin Rosaria speaks of a feathered hero saving people from the clutches of nearby bandits, and such a sight is definitely worth seeing.FF 16’s Clivewill then be tasked with tracking down this wonder.
The first part of this quest is not far from the entrance of the town, sohead southeast to the marked areaandlook for a white featherlying on the ground. From here, follow the Chocobo tracksto where a gang of bandits has cornered a majestic white Chocobo and its friends.
Show these bandits a good time with Clive’s sword and put an end to their nefarious ways. After the battle, which should be easy for players already familiar with the combat inFinal Fantasy 16, Clive will begin talking to thegroup of Chocobos.
Here, he finally realizes that this heroic beast isAmbrosia, his faithful steed from when he was still a young boy. The pair reunite, and players finally gain the ability to call upon Ambrosia as a mount to make travel easier.
How to Ride a Chocobo in Final Fantasy 16
After 18 long years, Clive and Ambrosia are once again together, and players can take advantage of the increased speed of a Chocobo as a mount. To summon Ambrosia in the field, push in and hold R3,which will see Ambrosia appear on-screen.
Walk up to the Chocobo andpress X to mountthe bird. On the mount, players can gallopusing R2 to get some speedandpress L2 to slow down.

A cool technique to learn isChocobo Drift, which can be done by holding L2 while galloping and tilting the left stick left or right. This allows for sharper-than-normal turns. At the same time, when Ambrosia flaps her wings and plants both feet on the ground, release L2 to pull off aDrift Dashfor a boost of speed.
Riding on Ambrosia is always a good time, and while enemies will still get aggressive, players can easily speed out of danger and get to where they rather be inValisthea.
