Horizon Forbidden Westrecently released to rave reviews, with many hailing it as a fitting follow-up toHorizon Zero Dawn. Those that dedicate enough time to it will get plenty of enjoyment out of exploringHorizon Forbidden West’s open world, completing quests, and hunting down all of the game’s trophies. Almost everyHorizon Forbidden Westtrophy can be earned in a single playthrough, but there is one missable trophy that has caused players some problems.
Horizon Forbidden Westhas a missable Silver trophy called All Machine Types Scanned. As the name suggests,Horizon Forbidden Westplayers need to scan every single machine type in the game in order to unlock it. This isn’t a problem for the most part, as nearlyevery machine inHorizon Forbidden Westcan be encountered multiple times, allowing players to find a new one and scan it if they failed to do so the first time around.

However, there are two exceptions to that rule, which is what makes theAll Machine Types Scanned trophy inHorizon Forbidden Westmissable. Without going into spoilers, the machines Specter and Specter Prime are encountered at the end of the game in the final main story quest, “Singularity.“Horizon Forbidden Westplayers not only have to scan Specter and Specter Prime before defeating them in battle, but they also have to remember to re-scan them if they die because otherwise they lose credit for it.
It’s frustrating thatHorizon Forbidden Westhas only one missable trophy and that it’s relatively easy for players to miss. However, this is a problem that can be rectified through DLC. No proper DLC or expansions have been announced forHorizon Forbidden Westat the time of its writing, but ifZero Dawnis any indication, it’s highly likely that something will be released to expand the game at some point down the line.
Horizon Forbidden WestDLC is rumored, but unconfirmed at the time of this writing.Horizon Zero Dawnreleased theFrozen Wildsexpansion to expand its game world, and so one has to imagine that a similar expansion is on the table forHorizon Forbidden West. If so, maybe it could feature new encounters with Specter and Specter Prime machines that will giveHorizon Forbidden Westplayers the opportunity to scan them and get their missing trophy.
Alternatively, maybe there could be something as simple as a boss rush mode or something added that will similarly giveHorizon Forbidden Westplayers the chance to scan any machines they missed, even if it doesn’t come as a full-blown expansion.
While it would be nice for this missable trophy to be done away with, there’s no guarantee that it will happen. For now,Horizon Forbidden Westplayerswill just need to be mindful of it and ensure they scan Specter and Specter Prime before wrapping up the final story quest if they want to unlock all of the game’s trophies.
