Hogwarts Legacyhas the rare opportunity to introduce more distinct characters to theHarry PotterIP. The game has its fair share of Easter eggs, homages, and tongue-in-cheek nods to the franchise at large, which is unsurprising considering whereHogwarts Legacytakes place. There are important name-drops that anyHarry Potterfan will instantly notice, such as Black and Weasley, and recurring characters who have been at the castle for ages appear in the form of ghosts such as Nearly Headless Nick and poltergeists such as Peeves.

There are also many new characters inHogwarts Legacywho all have important roles to play. Interestingly, players may feel closer to the students they see at Hogwarts who belong to the same house as them, particularly since they have an early opportunity to meet them in their respective common room. Companion characters come in the form of Slytherin’s Sebastian Sallow, Gryffindor’s Natsai Onai, and Hufflepuff’s Poppy Sweeting. In this regard,Ravenclaw’s Amit Thakkardraws the short straw for some reason and should be redeemed in post-launch DLC.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Companion Characters Play a Big Role

It was previously believed thatHogwarts Legacy’s companion characterswould behave in a few ways: that only one might be selected as a companion for individual playthroughs, that players would only get the companion that is in the same Hogwarts house as them, or that players could talk to all companion characters throughout the game. The latter has turned out to be true, and in fact companion characters comprise a fair bit of the main story’s questline as players become familiar with Hogwarts as a fifth-year student.

Players will see a lot of Sebastian in particular, since his quest spans the entire time that players spend in the game once arriving at Hogwarts in the opening hours. His quest is substantial, too, if players have any desire to learnHogwarts Legacy’s three Unforgivable Curses. Natsai and Poppy’s quests are similar to one another, introducing players to other regions of the map and to other characters, but Amit is notably left without his own relationship quest to follow. This is particularly alarming if fans choose to play as a Ravenclaw student, since they could feel like their own house is underrepresented in this way.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Amit Reeks of Cut Content

To be fair, Amit is not wholly omitted from players’ experiences, and thus lends more credence to the idea that he may once have been considered for a role comparable toHogwarts Legacy’s other companion characters. Amit plays a role in the main quest once introduced to Astronomy class, where Amit gifts the player his old telescope and they head out together to activate a nearby Astronomy Table—with players then being able to activate the ones they find throughout the open world.

Amit is also essential as he is able to read Gobbledegook and helptranslate Ranrok’s plansin a goblin mine once players introduce him to Lodgok. However, Amit has no personal quest that players can see through to a satisfying end, and that is a shame seeing as how each other house gets a student companion with a game-long quest.

There have been no announcements statedwhetherHogwarts Legacywill get post-launch DLC, but a companion quest for Amit would be a fantastic choice for content if that is being considered. In the meantime, Amit feels sorely left out from the others and could desperately use his own exciting storyline to follow.

Hogwarts Legacyis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4, and the Nintendo Switch version arrives July 30, 2025.
