Summary

Hitman: World of Assassinationhas well over a hundred unlockable items, from weaponry and new outfits to handy gadgets. Considering how many vastly different maps are on offer, not to mention the variety of different game modes available, one could argue that there may be at least one situation where these items will come in handy.

However, there are a number of pieces of gear inHitman: World of Assassinationthat are far too niche, situational, or downright useless that unlocking them should be the lowest priority forany avid assassin. New and seasoned players alike should make note ofthese terrible items, especially when in pursuit of the illustrious Silent Assassin ranking.

Agent 47 wielding a baseball bat outside a luxurious hideout in Hitman - World of Assassination

10HF Championship Bat

There is a fair bit of novelty to be had with grabbing a baseball bat and clunking someone over the head with it. It’s even more amusing when 47 is dressed up in the Japanese baseball player outfit that can be acquired in the Hokkaido hospital. Novelty, however, does not equal practicality.

The weapon isdeemed illegal when in any of 47’s suitsor while disguised as a civilian of any kind. It’s okay to use when dressed as a guard, but there are so many other one-handed, concealable blunt objects that do the same thing without attracting unwanted attention and blowing 47’s cover. With that in mind, players should stick to wrenches and hammers, and ditch this one entirely.

9Molotov Cocktail

When Ambrose Island was implemented inHitman 3, before the trilogy was merged into one game, the Molotov Cocktail (unlocked at Mastery level 20 on said level) was one of the most broken, overpowered weapons at the time. Because of some buggy coding, anyone caught in the blast would be ignited, and the game would class that as a non-suspicious accident.

Since it made killing targets without consequence far too easy, it was patched. Now, upon detonation, the explosion is still going to attract the attention of many nearby bystanders, but players will lose the chance at a Silent Assassin rating when the body is found. It’s too noisy and messy to be useful.

Agent 47 wielding a Jaeger 7 sniper rifle on an indoor firing range in Hitman: World of Assassination

8Jaeger 7

Sniper rifles are very useful for striking targets from afar, causing distractions, detonating propane canisters for an accidental kill, and so on. The easiest sniper rifle to unlock, requiring only a level 5 Mastery in Paris, is easily the worst option for long-range encounters of any kind.

Well, it only makes sense. After all, it has no silencer, no additional levels of zoom, and a mere 6 rounds per clip. Its only real benefit is the Scout perk, meaning it can be aimed quickly and has a higher rate of fire. Although,a good sniper would not need to spray ‘n’ prayin any situation anyway, so it’s going to gather dust quickly.

Agent 47 crouching and wielding an Explosive Pen while getting spotted by guards in Hitman: World of Assassination

7Exploding Pen

In “The Author,” as part of thePatient Zero campaign, killing Craig Black with an explosion while he is reading will unlock the Exploding Pen. Alas, it will only take one use before any player realizes how rubbish it is.

It can be tossed like a bomb, ready to explode after a few seconds, or thrown at an enemy for an instant kill before blowing up. Not only are explosives very situational, but certainly so for purists after the best ranking possible, having a deadly throwable weapon that explodes after a target is already killed just attracts unwanted attention. Best to write this one off completely.

6The Cat’s Claw

The Seven Deadly Sins DLC offers various unlockables for playing the first stage of each of its Escalation Contracts, and The Cat’s Claw is one item added to inventories upon beating Stage 1 ofthe rather challenging"The Envy Contention."

This peculiar-looking blade has no fancy bells and whistles at all. It’s just a re-skinned knife, albeit with a creative design. While it’s easy to hide, it’ll get 47 in trouble when frisked or equipped while in a suit or civilian disguise. For a DLC-exclusive item, it feels like such a pointless inclusion when a combat knife is already made available at the beginning of the game anyway!

Agent 47 near a Crystal Ball placed on a table in Hitman: World of Assassination

5Crystal Ball

Hitting Mastery level 10 on Marrakesh will reward assassins a Crystal Ball, a throwable object that shatters on contact with a surface or the poor fool who didn’t foresee getting hit in the head at 70 miles per hour.

Alas, it’s just another one-time item that falls apart when used. Again, an object like a wrench can be used as a blunt melee weapon for knocking someone out, can be used repeatedly for causing distractions, and can even be used for repairs and sabotage. Since the Crystal Ball has no other benefits, it proves to be a weak choice. 47 should ponder anything but this orb.

Agent 47 looking at a Concussion Grenade placed on a bed in Hitman: World of Assassination

4Concussion Grenade

The Concussion Grenade is the grand reward for reaching the highest Mastery level in Miami. It’s a big shame that it’s such a lousy prize; using Concussion Grenades effectively is a challenging task. Reading the description, the item sounds appealing enough. The blast can render nearby targets unconscious.

Two problems arise as a result of using this. Number one, the blast radius is too narrow, so putting down more than a single target is very challenging. Number two, the noise made will attract unwanted attention from guards who will end up finding the unconscious victim(s), thus robbing players of a perfect score. It’s not worth rolling the dice with this.

3Most Unsilenced Guns

Most of the unlockable weapons inHitman: World of Assassinationare going to be pretty useless. Of course, this applies to most, but not all, unsilenced weapons. Pistols and sniper rifles without a suppressor still have their niches. For example, pistols can be hidden easily and are handy for causing distractions, while some unsilenced sniper rifles with piercing rounds are much faster to pull out of a briefcase than their silenced variants.

Nevertheless, SMGs, shotguns, and assault rifles tend to be rather useless in comparison. Whilethe option to go full-on John Wick mode is there, they’re too loud and hefty to hide unless in a guard outfit or after finding a briefcase to stash it in.

2The White Shadow

While technicallyan unlockable outfit, The White Shadow from the Deluxe Escalations deserves a mention. Now, yes, this outfit looks incredibly cool and serves as a nice nod to the snipers in the snowy Japan missions inHitman 2: Silent Assassin. Plus, merely starting “The Proloff Parable” will add it to a player’s inventory.

However, this fan service comes with an unforeseen complication. The church in Sapienza and the entire hospital grounds in Hokkaido are no-go zones for anyone suited up in this outfit. Even starting off in Hokkaido’s spa will result in 47 getting caught by countless witnesses instantly. While these downsides are very specific and niche, it deserves a spot on the list because no other unlockable outfits have these detrimental effects.

1Red-Tie Kiwi

Being able to distract NPCs with thrown or placed objects is a simple but essential tactic inHitman: World of Assassination. Coins, for example, can lead someone away from their current position by tossing them nearby or luring them into danger with a trail of them. It’s an excellent tactic for getting someone out of sight for an easy kill or K.O.

The problem with the Red-Tie Kiwi, however, is that everyone ignores it once placed on the floor or a surface. If thrown, it will fall apart upon hitting a surface, and it obviously can’t be used to knock anyone out. A distractible with one use per mission is the least essential pick in any scenario and would be better off ignored entirely.

Hitman: World of Assassinationis available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
