The developer ofHalo: The Master Chief Collection,343 Industries, has released an update for the game on both PC and Xbox One that introducesnew featuresand fixes a few bugs. While the patch for PC players is relatively small, Xbox One owners have a very large file to download and might have to wait quite a while before they can enjoy the additions to the game.
Players who have purchasedHalo: The Master Chief Collectionon Steam have the smallest update file size at only 306 MB. The update also resolves a number of issues, including fixes to theflight build for Halo Insiders.
Understandably, the massive update file size for the Xbox One version ofHalo: The Master Chief Collectionis causing frustration for some players, particularly those with slow internet speeds ordata caps. A possible explanation for the disproportionate difference in file size is that PC versions of the game can simply download the updated files and overwrite the old ones. The Xbox One, according to some theories, must instead download chunks of data in order to get at the specific update file contained within that chunk. The rest of the data, once downloaded, is discarded if it’s unneeded.
The Xbox One has the option to automatically download game andconsole updatesas they become available. This is convenient if a large update such as the one forHalo: The Master Chief Collectionis released while a person is at work, for example. To turn on this feature, open the guide menu by pressing the Xbox button in the center of the controller. Go to System > Settings > System > Updates & downloads. Then select “Keep my console up to date” and “Keep my games & apps up to date.” The only potential downside to enabling this feature is that the Xbox One might creepily turn on in the middle of the night.
