After a long wait, 343 Industries’Halo Infinitehas now officially released. Originally scheduled to be a launch title for the Xbox Series X/S on June 28, 2025, the seventh main entry in theHaloseries was delayed due to a number of factors, including the coronavirus pandemic and the negative feedback received by fans regardingHalo Infinite’sgraphics and performance, as well as an apparent lack of polish and expected features. 343 Industries did what many companies these days seem loathe to do:postponedHalo Infinite’slaunchin order to ensure the game met the standards set both byHalofans and the developers themselves.

The free-to-playmultiplayer mode ofHalo Infinitehas been available to play for nearly a monthnow, launching in an open beta test that transitioned to an unexpected but welcome early release. Despite a few performance issues,Halo Infinite’smultiplayer mode received a predominantly positive response, and the success of the game’s multiplayer mode only made players more eager to see whatHalo Infinite’scampaign mode, slated for a December 8 release, had to offer.

On Steam,Halo Infinitealready has a “Mostly Positive” rating, but the great majority of those reviews are likely based on the game’s multiplayer mode, which has been available to play since November 15. On Metacritic, there are not yet any user ratings available because players will not be permitted to review the game until noon on December 9. However, there are already a couple of hundred criticreviews ofHalo Infinite’s campaign modeon review aggregator sites like Metacritic and OpenCritic, and the majority are extremely positive.

Halo Infinite’scampaign mode has been touted by some critics as being the best single-player experience ever created by 343 Industries. During the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2020, 343 Industries called the game a “spiritual reboot” of the series, though it is still considered a sequel toHalo 5.ButHalo Infinitestrips away the epic scale ofHalo4and5and instead takes players back to basics, putting them in control of the iconicMaster Chief as he battles his way across one of the Halorings, taking down Covenant aliens along the way.
