The fifth episode ofHawkeyeadded many significant pieces to the puzzle within the series, which has audiences buzzing for what is to come.Hawkeyestar Hailee Steinfeld discussed the revived excitement, hinting at other core elements that may forge a new path for Kate Bishop and Clint Barton.
Hawkeyeepisode 5 continued with theprogressive development of Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, who made her long-awaited appearance within the final chaotic moments of the series fouth episode. Yelena’s tease laid dormant since the post-credits scene fromBlackWidow, but all that audiences had known was her given objective to exterminate Clint Barton. That information continues to carry weight, but a sitdown with Kate Bishop in the fifth episode further propelled the storyline and unearthed several perplexing questions. Again, it’s unequivocal that Yelena will play a prominent role within the evolving nature of the MCU, but what captured the attention of audiences came within the final moments. The curtain concealing Echo’s nefarious Uncle, the enigma behind the ensuing chaos, lifted to reveal the culprit to be the Kingpin himself.

The photo of Kingpin,played by Vincent D’Onofrio, that Yelena sent to Kate within the episode revealed something compelling, but will the iconic villain make a physical appearance? In the Entertainment Weekly sitdown, Steinfeld alluded to the possibility, saying, “It’s a very different experience standing underneath Vincent and hearing him. To be in his presence is really something.” From this, one can assume that Steinfeld and D’Onofrio will share the screen, but nothing concrete has surfaced on the matter. “I’ve been a fan of his for a very long time. It’s always amazing to be a part of something with people that you really admire. I’m excited to see people watch it unfold,” continued theHawkeyestar.
Throughout the series, the ominous presence that has worried Clint is not unfamiliar to Kate, but the boogeyman stays hidden within the shadows. “This is somebody that she doesn’t know much about, but she’s been warned. She knows everything she needs to know when she hears Clint say ‘this is the guy I’ve been worried about the whole time.’ That right there is enough for her to need to come to her senses and figure out how to handle the situation. If it didn’t feel real before, it’s real now,” stated Steinfeld as she continued to lay breadcrumbs of anticipation. How the emblematic villain will make his appearance is unknown, but the established connection he possesses with Kate’s mother thickens the plot even more.
This series has been bombarded with rumors and theories ever since its inception. The heroes are undoubtedly the dominate centerpiece, but the antagonists carry a tremendous amount of weight as well. Surprises that riddle theHawkeyeseries have pushed to the forefront heavily debated theories, but Steinfeld has opened the door to another avenue of excitement. The D’Onofrio Kingpin character was a staple within the MarvelDaredevilseries, which lives on the Netflix streaming platform. With the emergence of classicvillains withinSpider-Man: No Way Home, many began to speculate if the nefarious villain would undergo a rebirth of his own. Steinfeld’s confirmation of their interactions provides hope that his rise from the ashes is near.
Kingpin’s arrival inHawkeyeoccured just day beforeCharlie Cox’s Daredevilappeared inSpider-Man: No Way Home, confirming Marvel Studios has plans to integrate at least some of the Netflix heroes into the MCU. The cinematic universe is starting to form the chain-linked fence of connection that may have hope for, and Steinfeld’s words have added even more fuel to the fire.
