The Lunar New Year is an exciting time for MMORPG players to experience events based on the Chinese holiday in their favorite games.Guild Wars 2is no exception, as it begins its own event for the Year of the Tiger in the weeks leading up to itsEnd of Dragonsexpansion.
Like many events inGuild Wars 2, players can participate regardless of level. Players will find an invitation in their mailboxes that can be used to teleport to the heart of the festivities in the human capital of Divinity’s Reach–and teleport them back to where they were once they’re done.

The event itself is a colorful celebration full of fireworks, games, and prizes, including dishes from theGuild Wars 2continent of Cantha, whereEnd of Dragonstakes place. Players can acquire loot box-like Divine Lucky Envelopes full of New Years' goodies, race on their favorite mounts across the city, and set off fireworks. Limited-edition rewards have also been added to the game’s cash shop, like a white tiger skin for the Jackal mount and beautiful white tiger-themed armor and weapons, but players can also earn special rewards, like the Primal Tiger Hood, Mini Lunar Tiger minion, and the Crescent Steel Sword, by completing festival achievements.
This year’s Lunar New Year celebration inGuild Wars 2is special, as players will be visiting the continent of Cantha where these celebrations originate from soon.End of Dragonsis adding nine new elite specializations, a new siege turtle mount, and several new zones, and will take players back to a continent not seen sinceGuild Wars: Factionsover ten years ago, which will bring the saga of the Elder Dragons to an end.
It is a good time to be aGuild Wars 2fanor a cat fan, but a better time to be both. Players were surprised to see the white tiger was a skin for the jackal mount, rather than the mighty Warclaw, though that’s probably because the Warclaw already has a tiger skin, and is for use primarily in PvP, while the Jackal has more utility elsewhere. Nevertheless, players have already rushed to the Black Lion Trading Company store to spend their gems on the new white tiger items.
Some players are annoyed at the audacity ofGuild Wars 2to start this event without giving a release date forEnd of Dragons, though. Arenanet has shown a release schedule that puts the expansion’s launch in late February, but many are puzzled as to why it hasn’t nailed down a specific date yet. However, with February already hosting a massive number of AAA titles, plusThe Old Republic’s Legacy of the Sithexpansionand possiblyWorld of Warcraft’s Eternity’s End Patch,Guild Wars 2is probably hoping to avoid direct competition toEnd of Dragons’release.
Guild Wars 2is available now on PC, withEnd of Dragonsreleasing in February 2022.
