It’s no secret thatMarvelis truly making strides at the moment with theMarvel Cinematic Universe. The comic universe is introducing audiences to new characters with every film, and the Marvel comic books are doing the same thing, but with unique characters that could one day be graced with alive-action MCU adaption.

Every year, the writers and artists involved in Marvel comic titles use their creativity to introduce new characters, both heroic and villainous. These characters furtherchallenge the legacy charactersthat fans have loved for decades, but with such greatnew additions in 2022, hopefully, these characters stick around for the long haul.
7Tosin Oduye
In January 2022, Marvel fans met Tosin Oduye, a young Wakandan hero that featured in issue 3 ofBlack Panther. This character has seen the worst of Wakanda’s history, as he has been through the isolation of Wakanda, the great wars that follow, and the country’sself-absorbed superioritycomplex. What makes Tosin unique is his tribe, the Marube, and their resentment of Vibranium.
Thanks to Vibranium tattoos, Tosin gained a lot of powers, where he can flow with Vibranium, and better train himself and his allies to protect his people. He’s a character that could have a long history in the Marvel Universe, and hopefully, one that further explores the mythos of Wakanda.
6Web-Weaver
Marvel can never get enough of the webhead characters likeSpider-Man. There’s an evenentire Multiverse storylineinvolving the significance of those that were bitten by radioactive spiders. The latest character in this story is of Web-Weaver, the first gay Spider character.
In Web-Weaver’s reality, the character had a crush on Peter Parker, saved him from the radioactive spider, and was bitten in his stead. Now, the character takes on the name Web-Weaver, who has a proudly effeminate costume like he’s at the Met Gala.
5Escapade
Marvel introduced a new line of representation withMarvel Voices: Pride, and in that comic, readers met Shela Sexton, the Mutant that would be known to the world as Escapade.Escapade is a proud villain, but only focuses her attention on those that deserve it, like bank and lab heists that seek to do the world wrong.
She often resents the X-Men and relies on her smarts and technology rather than her Mutant powers, which she describes as unreliable. Escapade’s trans identity is also integral to the character, and it would be a missed opportunity to not further explore her representation.
4Lyra Bloodstone
The name Bloodstone is famous in the Marvel Universe, especially when it comes to hunting the supernatural. Lyra Bloodstone was introduced in January of 2022, with theDeath of Doctor Strange. She is the firstborn of the immortal monster hunter, Ulysses Bloodstone, a character that has been seen for decades in the comics. Lyra may hope to have a long life in the comics too.

Marvel always benefits from more mystical and supernatural characters, and with the death ofDoctor Strange, Lyra Bloodstone’s tenthousand-yearexiles was at an end. She has the Nullgem embedded in her chest and was welcomed to the family by her siblings, Elsa Bloodstone and Cullen Bloodstone, both famed hunters.
3Vornak
It’s always interesting to see great power enter the expanding Marvel Universe. In issue 6 ofX-Men, January 2022, Vornak was introduced to readers as an ancient mutant and a hero of Arakko. Vornak is by no means the first Mutant character to exist before theX-Men, but it’s always interesting to see what great power lurks in those from centuries ago.
Vornak was a great Mutant, that even had songs about him, and he even used his axe to slay the goddess of pain, Amenthii. Sadly, Vornak’s story ends in the same issue, as he is killed after Heng unleashes a wave of energy to disintegrate him. Hopefully, Vornak’s legacy as a proud Mutant hero does not go unnoticed, and he returns in some form later in the year, as there’s much to explore about his character and his great weapon.
2Zsen
In the Marvel Universe, a new order has been founded with that of the Inward Watch. These enforcers of Arakii law have the duties of retrieving and destroying those who flee challenges and witnessing and recording all challenges. One of the members of this order is Zsen, who has intense prowess in war.
She was first introduced inLegion of Xissue 1 in May 2022 and has visited Krakoa, home of the Mutants,with Nightcrawleras her escort. Her Mutant power is to paint the truth, a power she somewhat resents for its lack of fighting ability. Zsen proves herself more than her powers, as she has great improvements in retractable blades from her hands and art for combat that she has developed herself.
1Mother Righteous
Mutant characters are never in short supply, and another character that was introduced in issue 1 ofLegion of X, May 2022, was Mother Righteous. This character revealed herself in the Astral Plane and used her powers to force the character of Blindfold to show David that he could be gifted with the very powers of Ghost Rider.
The fact that Mother Righteous can offer such a thing, and exist in the Astral Plane effortlessly, shows that there is great power just waiting to be learned about this character. Her true name is yet unknown, but her attire and motives could lead to a greater mystery in the Mutant mythos.
