Grand Theft Auto: San Andreasis one of the most critically-acclaimed and best-selling games of all time. Considered a benchmark in the open world space, many fans are excited for the opportunity to return toGrand Theft Auto: San Andreaswhen it re-releases in a couple of weeks as part of theGrand Theft Auto Trilogycollection. However, that won’t be the only new way that fans will get to experienceGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Oculus has confirmed that a virtual reality version ofGrand Theft Auto: San Andreasis in development for Oculus Quest 2. There’s no gameplay footage or other developers available at the time of this writing, but it was confirmed that thisGrand Theft Auto: San AndreasVR project has been in development for years. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see howGrand Theft Auto: San Andreastranslates to a VR space, but if the developers pull it off, it could be another big reason for VR enthusiasts to bite the bullet and grab themselves an Oculus Quest 2 headset.

It will be interesting to seeGrand Theft Auto: San AndreasVR in action, especially since there are now two distinct art styles for the game. There’s the original, blockier art style, as well as the newer, HD graphics seen in theGTA Trilogyversion of the game. It’s possible that the VR version ofGrand Theft Auto: San Andreaswill go in a different direction entirely, so fans should keep that in mind.
It will also be interesting to see ifGrand Theft Auto: San AndreasVR has a first-person viewpoint or if it uses a third-person view. While the originalGrand Theft Auto: San Andreasgame is third-person,GTAgames have had first-person view optionsin the past, and first-person is usually the ideal viewpoint for virtual reality experiences.
Resident Evil 4 VRjust recently launchedas an Oculus Quest 2 exclusive, and it swapped the original game’s third-person view for a first-person one. While this seems like it would have been a controversial decision, it actually has been embraced by the community, with critics praising how the first-person view and Oculus Touch controls makeResident Evil 4 VRfeel like a brand new experience.
It remains to be seen ifvirtual realitywill do something similar forGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas. There’s still a lot to be revealed about the project, but hopefully more information comes soon.
