It’s been nine years since the last numbered title in theGran Turismoseries was released, withGran Turismo 6in 2013. Now, fans are merely days away fromthe long-awaited launch ofGran Turismo 7,opening the salvo for a month packed with new releases.

Despite being one of Sony’s flagship franchises, theGran Turismoseries has always had somewhat of a niche appeal. Each entry pushes the series' obsessive attention to detail, andGran Turismo 7is no different.

Still, Polyphony Digital seems to be trying to bridge the gap between obsessive and casual racers, especially with the game’s assist mode. There’s bound to be plenty of new players ready to tryGran Turismo 7the moment it’s available.

Gran Turismo 7’s Release Time

Gran Turismo 7will release at midnight on March 4th. This is the same no matter what time zone the player is in. Theoretically, a player can unlock the game early by opening a PlayStation account in a region where the calendar will roll forward earlier, such as New Zealand, but they will need to use that account every time they want to play it, especially sinceGran Turismo 7has some always online features.

Players don’t have to wait for March 4th to purchase and preload the game, however. Preloading has been available since February 25th. It’s best to clear some space and download the game early, sinceGran Turismo 7’s filesize clocks in at a whopping 89 GB.

Gran Turismo 7 Console Choice

Like most of Sony’s recent first-party releases,Gran Turismo 7is going to be a multi-platform experience, launching on both the PS4 and PS5. The ideal platform choice depends on what the player wants out of the game.

TheGran Turismofranchise has always pushed technical boundaries. It’s clear that the PS5 is the developer’s intended experience, due toexclusive features likeGran Turismo 7’s ray tracing.

Still, it seems that the main differences between versions are purely visual, and there aren’t any major differences between how each console plays.Considering how PS5s still aren’t readily available in some areas, a frugal or impatient gamer will still probably get enjoyment from the PS4 version. They should know, however, that there’s no packed-in upgrade plan, so if they want to trade up to a new console, they’ll need to repurchase the game.
