God of War Ragnarok’s sixteenth chapter,The Summoning, kicks off right after Kratos and Atreus leave Sindri’s House. To stand a chance against Odin, they need to assemble as many allies as they can, but they don’t know who will respond to their call. Having visited Surtr’s Shrine earlier, Atreus believes that Surtr himself might join them.

The sixteenth chapter ofGod of War Ragnaroktakes place in Muspelheim, a fiery wasteland crawling with monsters. Mimir has set off for Helheim, leaving Kratos and Atreus to navigate the location by themselves without a guide. Even without him, finding Surtr is simple enough, but convincing him to join the battle against Odin proves to be quite challenging.
Find Surtr’s Forge
After descending the cliff to the south, Kratos can find aRed Coffinif he jumps to the platform on the left. Once the brambles covering it have been burned off with theBlades of Chaosand Atreus' Sigil Arrows, he must then follow Atreus onto the platform to the southwest.
There are a few Dodher Wisps in the next room, so Atreus must use his Runic Arrows to render them vulnerable. There’s also aLegendary Chesthere that contains aYggdrasilSeed Half.

Moving into the net area, passing the brambles blocking the way, leads to an area Atreus visited with Thor. To reach Sutr, Kratos must follow the same path Atreus did by shimmying under the lava fall to the east. There’sa Gold Crackalong this path that, when destroyed, leads to aNornir Chest.
Returning to the area in front of the Gold Crack, Atreus can firea few Sigil Arrowsto ignite the sigil over the lava pool. Once the first sigil is lit, its flames can be connected to the next sigil with three more Hex Bubbles. The last sigil can be found to the right of the chest while looking upward and can be ignited with the Blades of Chaos. Inside the chest lies someHorns of Blood Mead.

Before hopping over the fallen pillar into the next, it would be a good idea tosave the gamein preparation for an upcoming boss battle.
Defeat The Flame Phantom
It’s important to maintain a safe distance from the Flame Phantom to avoid its attacks. To stun it, Kratos must throwthe Leviathan Axeat its core when it glows. Even hitting it when it stops glowing will contribute to its stagger gauge. After it’s stunned, it will vanish into an obelisk that, when destroyed, will deplete one-third of the creature’s health.
After repeating the process for the Flame Phantom’s second phase, the next obelisk can be found on the lava-surrounded platform overlooking Muspelheim. The final one can only be reached by throwingthe Draupnir Spearat the Gold Crack concealing it on the opposite side of the arena. Once it’s destroyed, the battle will end.

Upon reaching Surtr’s Forge, Atreus will spot a man covered in ash. Before approaching him, the player shouldsave the gameonce more.
Defeat The Soul Eaters
Surtr has no interest in conversing with Kratos and his son. Instead, he summons a Soul Eater and forces the duo to fight it. This enemy is similar to the Ancients regarding its abilities and weak points; the player must maintain their distance and only attack when its core is exposed.
Kratos can throw the Leviathan Axe whenever the Soul Eater attacks using projectiles. The quickest way to deal damage is to take advantage of when the Soul Eater leans backward and starts spewing fire around the area. While aiming, moving left and right will dodge any incoming flames. After depleting most of its health, the player can destroy the creature by pressingR3to deal the finishing blow.

The same method can be used for the second Soul Eater, but the Draugr Warriors that join the fight can make it difficult to focus. Kratos should vanquish them before turning his attention to the remaining Soul Eater.
Once they have both been defeated, Surtr will speak to Kratos and Atreus. When the cutscene ends, Surtr will lead them to the Spark of the World. Before following him to the end of the area, the player shouldsave the game.

Defeat Hrist & Mist
Two Valkyries named Hrist and Mist launch an attack once the cutscene ends. Thankfully, Mist will focus on attacking Atreus, leaving Kratos to deal with Hrist. They share the same health bar, so damaging one will affect the other.
Whenever Hrist shields herself with her wings, the player should tapL1 repeatedlyto bypass her defenses. They eventually join forces and charge at Kratos, but each attack can be dodged relatively easily. The green attack where Hristleaps into the air can be blocked, but only if the player raises Kratos' shield the moment the animation begins.

Mist will begin to spin toward Kratos after progressing the battle. This attack can be parried to leave her vulnerable, but it can also be avoided by running away. Once each of their health bars have been depleted, the Valkyries ascend above the area and begin theirsecond phase.
They throw Kratos off the edge of the arena, so the player mustmash Circleto climb back up. After rescuing Atreus, Kratos will need to focus on Mist. Mist can be slightly more challenging due to her spin move, so the player should be ready to block whenever she approaches. They can also grab Atreus during this phase. To free him, Kratos must attack the Valkyrie holding him.

The Valkyries can perform another group attack in this phase that requires Kratos to avoid the glowing red marks on the ground. Though it may look intimidating, the player has plenty of time to move away from them.
The third phase sees them throwing boulders at Kratos, but everything else remains the same as before. Once their third health bar is empty, Kratos can deal the finishing blow by completing a quick time event.

Return To The Mystic Gateway
Backtracking to where they met Surtr, Kratos and Atreus will pass aRed Coffinwhile returning through the cave. Pushing passed the Einherjar and climbing up the newly created cliff face, the path forward will lead directly to the Mystic Gateway.
Before it can be reached, however, Kratos must face a Dodher Gradungr mounted by an Einherjar. Unlike the battle with Heimdall, the Einherjar can be knocked off the Dodher Gradungr with the Leviathan Axe. If the Einherjar remounts, they will begin healing the creature, so it’s best to have the Leviathan Axe ready to throw at all times. Once the beast is down, Kratos must deal with the remaining Einherjar before moving on.

Upon squeezing into the next area, Kratos will be faced with one ofOdin’s Ravens. Continuing into the next room will lead him back to the Mystic Gateway, where he finds Mimir awaiting his return. After a brief conversation, they use the Mystic Gateway to return to Tyr’s Temple.
Return To Tyr’s Temple
Upon reaching the Lake of Nine, Kratos can use Lunda’s shop next to the Mystic Gateway to upgrade any equipment he needs. If the player wishes to get to Tyr’s Temple quickly, they can use the wolf sled located just in front of the shop.
Like in the previous chapter,Hunting for Solace, Kratos must ride the lift in the Lake of Nine to reach Tyr’s Temple. If the player has any unfinished business to attend to before beginning the final chapter, they will have the opportunity to do so now, but they can also do this later if they wish to.
Kratos and Atreus reconvene with Freya after exiting the lift and she informs them of the army she has gathered. Upon reaching the doors to Tyr’s Temple, Atreus will head to his tent to sleep, marking the end of the chapter.
